Republicans and the debt ceiling

Back in the day when I worked Hill adjacent, there used to be a lot of events held by non profit organizations and lobbying groups to educate staff (and members) about things like the difference between say, budget negotiations, and a debt limit increase. If voters are going to keep sending know nothings to Congress, who then hire double know nothings, we might need to make sure this education is still happening.

Correcting course would be to either find a cut to keep the 2017 tax reform, or let it expire, but the GOP won't do either.

No. That’s not how this works unless you want to cut spending on programs that Congress has already authorized and work that has already been done or is in progress to pay debt. I’m which case, which programs would you like to cut and how much?

Sure it does. Lets try an experiment and not raise the ceiling. I bet we will not spend past the current limit. I wouldn't be suprised if we actually re order our spending based on priorities and actually have things to cut. Its nice that we decided to spend past the limit, but oh well we didn't secure the funding.

Raising the debt limit allows you to spend more than you get in revenues. Not raising the debt limit forces you to not spend more than revenues.
Given that currently revenues are well under what has been budgeted for spending, raising the debt limit does increase spending.

Close tax loopholes for the wealthy, raise taxes on the .01%, and cut the military industrial complex, ie Lockheed, Etc.
