It is so funny it probably deserves its own thread, but I’ll just post it here for now.

That's hilarious and needs its own website!

Oh my god. I cannot love this enough.

DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson is holding a Facebook Live event tonight at 5pm. If you are interested in bringing up this issue and voicing your support for DC following CDC guidelines on indoor masking, submit a question in advance, join and make your voice heard!

Mendelson is live now. First question was from a DCPS parent about why masks are still required.

Phil Mendelson just said that "until cases are zero" in DC he will continue to support masking in schools. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.

What CDC guidance is he talking about?

Is the Chairman suggesting that the WTU contract with respect to kids and masks supersedes the best interest of the kids and ignore science?

It's what Mendelson said.

I heard him say that he had just checked the CDC website and didn’t see any updated information about masking in schools. That’s the extent of the thought and effort that he put into this.
What a clown.
This city is a clown town.

How could it not? Its not only unnatural, its unnecessary and completely counter to what every other developed nation has done. This is not normal.

THIS. The US has been an outlier in the world and now DC is an outlier in the US.

And by all suggestions, we are going to continue to be an outlier. This is pathetic and the people in charge should be ashamed that they aren't following PUBLIC HEALTH GUIDANCE.

+1
This is absurd. It is irrational and insane to be the only ones in the entire country to continue to force children to mask. WTAF. Mayor Bowser should be ashamed of herself.

People are going to laugh at me but whatever. My daughter's preschool here in MA dropped the mask mandate this week. We land in DC at the end of the month. It gives me half a mind not to start her at the pre-K we lined up because I don't want her going back to this, especially in a new classroom environment.

I am a PK parent in DC and I will not laugh at you. That would be sound and responsible decision-making. See if you can find in-home care. It's not worth a few months of PK programming. Hopefully the madness ends this summer and your kid can go next year without this stupidity.

Another DC PK parent, please don't come to DC - zero PK students here have a problem with wearing masks a few more months until they can get vaccinated - it's their crazy, foaming parents that don't want to wear masks. Kids who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated. Kids who cannot yet be vaccinated should wear masks indoors. It's not that deep. And if you won't get your kid vaccinated or have your kid wear a mask inside, home school with the other fundy cultists.

The idea that an adult- and presumably a mother as well- would burden her child and force her into a pawn situation like this is truly horrifying

You will be talked about in therapy for years to come, pp, as your poor kids try to get past what you’re doing to them.

Uh what?

He gave that answer twice and he referred to it again in his written comments on the FB live responses.

Mendelson is NOT advocating for the students. He deflects to the Executive branch and WTU's contract. He should be pressing them on some action given the recent change in CDC guidance and DC's Low/Green CDC status.

This is so ridiculous. DC is going to be the absolute last jurisdiction to get rid of masks. Covid cases will never be zero. This is ludicrous.
