When should DC drop its school mask mandate?

I don't think the DCist article provides a good window into what Ward 7 and 8 residents think, as the people (person?) asked were teachers. I can hazard a guess that one of the "Ward 7 educators" interviewed was Laura No Fuchs Left to Give. She's not really known for....well....rationality.

She has a class sizes that range from 11 to 22 student and is worried about her safety.

This woman Laura Fuchs
@DCWard7teacher
Is, based on her asinine tweets, the most psychotic "educator," I've ever seen. Does anyone know what school is unfortunate enough to have her? I would never in a million years send my child to a school that continues to employ someone as utterly void of reality as that nutjob woman

She's also a WTU-CORE founder and in some high-level position in the WTU.

Says a lot about the insanity of the WTU if this woman is in charge of anything. Reading her tweets is like a deep dive into a paranoid alternative universe. I can not believe she's teaching kids.

Such kind statements. It always feels good to be appreciated by so many fans. I've been educating in DCPS for 15 years, so I must be doing something not quite so psychotic to keep my job. Sometimes I even win awards for it. Funny how that works.

When it comes to the article, if I were to be quoted, I would say my name. I stand by what I say and believe. Unlike the people who hang out in this forum. So I was not asked about anything for this article.

That being said, I believe that masking indoors in schools is important for the health and safety of us all given that we have higher rates of COVID than the population at-large and our student populations have very low rates of vaccinations.

Enjoy your continued trolling

I know Laura! She’s great. Fantastic educator and very much imbedded in the community at Woodson.

Laura, can you give us any insight on why the WTU doesn't seem to have any unity, and what that means for its bargaining power?

What about all the kids and adults that have been responsible enough to get vaccinated? They should wear masks forever — even though case rates are quite low and not severe — because some people won’t be rational? That’s a whacked view.

+1. Laura certainly has a right to her opinion; however, that should not be the basis of school policy.

Agree. Also kids too young to be vaccinated but also too young to mask effectively when anyone is being honest....
My 3 year old was overjoyed that her current school dropped masks last week. I am trying to explain to her that when we move to DC in a couple of weeks she may have to wear a mask. She told me, "I won't ever want to wear a mask indoors because I'm always going to want to suck my thumb."

My understanding is that DCPS is in desperate need for teachers. I am not sure that I would hang my hat on my ability to keep a job in such an institution known for spending the highest amount Of money per student and yet quality remains an issue.

Also, lots of people who weren't or didn't seem crazy before Covid became so in the face of the virus. It's shocking to watch.
