MIL has never knocked when enterIng the guest bedrooms we occupy during visits and ALWAYS enters occupied room during stays. This has happened while we dated and stayed in separate rooms, engaged, married, and with kids. She's caught me undressed before. Interrupted breastfeeding, interrupted kid naps. DH has asked her to knock and leave us alone but she thinks she can go anywhere in her house! anytime.
Well, she woke the baby up at 6 a.m. to get a vacuum out of the closet, and I'm DONE. Told her to her face we are staying in hotels from now on. It's WWIII but DH agrees with me. Sorry, MIL. You made this bed. Lie in it. |
| WTF? How do people make it through life being this crazy an rude? Glad your DH is backing you up, OP. |
| Old people gonna old. |
|
She has actually told me before that knocking isn't asking to come in; it's telling you I'm coming in.
No, MIL. No more. You are done. |
| Locks? |
She's 66 and has done this for the 10 years I've known her. |
Only on bathroom doors. |
| You are right. |
Better yet, save your money and stay at her house, but get a hotel room door lock and don't tell her; then let her try to come in. There's a bunch on Amazon, but here are 2. https://www.amazon.com/Addalock-Portable-Travel-AirBNB-Lockdown/dp/B00186URTY?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_3 https://www.amazon.com/DoorJammer-Portable-Security-Personal-Protection/dp/B00N95IVSQ?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_9 |
Don't excuse rudeness because a person's gotten older. |
Nope, the ruckus would still disturb us/wake us up. And her trying to get in without knocking is still disrespecting me. Instead, she's losing out on us ever staying on her home. Ever. She's done. We're driving away as we speak, and nodded at the Hampton Inn on our way out of town. That's our new New Jersey home away from home. |

Who vacuums at 6 a.m.? With guests over? Shouldn't shew have vacuumed before you arrived?
Seems like she wanted to disturb you. I would have handed her the screaming baby and gone back to bed. "You woke up Larla so you get to watch her for the next hour!" |
Ok, so what are you looking for from DCUM? Are you just venting? |
Are you new here? Yes, sometimes people vent and commiserate on DCUM. Welcome! |
|
Is hosting you some kind of privilege for her?
I admit, I’m not totally following the bouncing ball. |
