What is a reasonable curfew for backyard basketball (neighbors bothered by bouncing ball)

Anonymous
We have a backyard sport court. Our boys are 13 and 14. So they want to play in the warmer months, even at night.
Is an 11:00 pm curfew too late?

10pm at the latest. Are there a lot of preschoolers in the neighborhood? If so, 9:00pm.

Are you insane? 11 is way too late. I would say 9.

What time are they supposed to be in bed on weeknights? Make the curfew 15-30 minutes before then. For weekends, 11 pm seems fine to me.

Agree.

Yes way too late. 9-9:30pm if your neighbors are older, 10pm at the most and only on a Friday or Saturday night.

My crazy neighbors tell my boys to stop playing in the middle of the day. They would probably call the police on them if I allowed them to play past 8pm.

I would say 9 or maybe 9:30 but earlier if you have a neighbor eith a baby or preschooler, just to be a kind person who is empathetic to this. Is there a local park where they can play?
When my kids were little we had a neighbor that drove his loud motorcycle at 9 or 10 every night. I would get the kids to sleep, they would wake up with the motor revving, baby get back to sleep finally, only to be woken up again when the guy came home revving his engine again. Obviously it was his right to do so, but it was just awful for us. It was one of the really big motorcycles with a super loud engine.

Look into your local noise ordinance and act accordingly.

You guys are generous; I was going to say 7-8 because NO ONE wants to hear thump thump thump endlessly all day and late into the evening. It’s crazy making and more so when you’re trying to unwind after the work day and gear up to face the grind again the next day. 8 pm OP or thy can go to a park that’s designed for that.

+1000. I don’t think anyone wants to hear that all night, especially after 8pm. Montgomery County noise ordinance says 9pm so for me that would be the absolute latest. If your kids were out playing at 11 you would definitely be branded the asshole entitled neighbor. “But they’re just KIDS having FUN!” Yeah right, at everyone else’s expense.

You, sir or madam, are an asshole. An entitled one at that.
