All the neighborhood kids come to play at our house and in the middle of the summer when it’s still like at 9pm it’s hard to kick them out.
11pm they definitely need to stop, but I would shoot for 10. Also our hoop is in our driveway and we have teens who are playing, so from a noise perspective I think yours isn’t as bothersome. We’ve never received a complaint (to our face) |
| I get up at 4. If I was woken by a bouncing ball at 11..I would be ticked... |
| Sure, it would be nice if it ended by 9. I would be annoyed too. But the curfew is the time whatever your towns noise ordinance sets. |

9pm
Final answer |
How is 10 a compromise?!? |
| Really? Our next door neighbor has a hoop in their backyard and their teenage boys played basketball endlessly. Once I asked them to stay off our grass because we had just seeded, but other than that, teenage boys playing basketball in the backyard is something I want to see more of and not less. Play until midnight. |
| 11pm? Are you serious?? OMG. My young kids are asleep waaayyy before that and the evenings are time for us to concentrate/work or unwind... I can't even imagine having neighbors like that. I think 8pm is the latest. |

When you live close to people, there has to be some give-and-take. You're not going to have complete silence, but it's also good lesson to learn to be respectful of your neighbors. There's absolutely no need for anybody to be out playing basketball at 10 at night.
we have parties often and we sit out on the deck. But by 10, I move people inside so as not to annoy my close neighbors. That just seems like good manners and courtesy to me you may have the right, and you can insist on it, but it doesn't make you a good neighbor or a good person. It just makes you ornery. And probably not very well-liked |
| 10pm. |

We have a court, too.
I pull the plug at 9pm unless our immediate neighbors are outside playing, too (then I figure it's okay to play later). Note: our neighbors who put their barking dog outside every damn morning at 5:30am or leave them outside barking at 11pm certainly don't show us the same courtesy--neither do the SAT/SUN lawn mowers at 8am. |
| If your teens want more ball time, they can get up earlier. I think the court hours in summer should be 9am-9pm. |
9 pm is the latest we allow any of our crew to be playing basketball outside. The noise can be terribly annoying to other people. There is probably 200 feet (think of it as about 1/2 a football field) between our hoop and the nearest house, and we don't allow the children to play basketball after 9 pm or before 9 am. |
| 9 at the latest. |
| 9 during the week, 10 on weekends. Follow the noise ordinances for your area. |

8:30 or 9 seems reasonable to me. The reality is that there are places you can take your kids to play ball until 11pm if you want. Obviously, having to drive your kids around is annoying for the parents of the teen, but after 9pm, I think the balance of annoyance shifts in favor of neighbors trying to get their kids to sleep.
Yeah, the more I think about it, I think it's pretty rude and selfish to play in the backyard after 9 if it's bothering the neighbors. Take your kids to a park, gym, wherever. |
