new thread-- actual hs magnet results

Anonymous
MCPS tweeted "If you applied to an MCPS regional or countywide high school application program(MC2, P-Tech, PLTW Engineerig, IB, CAP, Global, Science/Math/CS and others) results are in homes or on their way!" this morning...

Has anyone received a letter yet? Are results only distributed by mail, and not on email or portal? I know the APEX at WJ program sent an email.

DD applied to CAP, SMCS, and IB, 98 percentile overall for cogat and currently goes to eastern magnet and is very hopeful and stressed. Best of luck to everyone!

We got an invitation to MC2 today, but that’s not like the others.

Looks like letters will arrive Monday. Ugh.

Parents - pleeease refrain from calling or texting results to your child during the day. Several years ago one of my kids in 8th grade magnet experienced a horrible school day as kids got results texted during classes. Some kids got bad news and were in tears and sent to counselors, some got good news and were horribly rude to peers, and pretty much the rest were in a high state of anxiety all day. Please give your children the news when they get home.

Good luck to all!

It's good to advocate wisdom, but some people will want to let their kids know if it's good news. It's not fair to tell them that they shouldn't let kids know. It is fair to ask people to use discretion and empathy.

How many eighth graders do you know who are consistently capable of discretion and empathy in the moment they receive exciting news? PP is not saying don’t tell them at all, just that when you tell them, do it at home ffs.

I agree. Let them open their own letters at home!

A lot. You don't think these kids are capable of discretion and empathy? My kid is currently at Blair (& accepted all other programs) and was at TPMS, so a lot of acceptances going on. Kids were respectful and sensitive (for the most part). I wouldn't open her mail, but I may have texted that she got a large envelope. You can't tell other parents what to do. Sorry.

It doesn’t come in a large envelope.

Actually, some of the schools send a large manila envelope containing further information about registration and classes if you're accepted.

Yes it did! (Why do people insist they know things they don't know)?! Did you read the part where I said my kid was accepted to all the programs? If it is same as last year, Blair magnet, Blair CAP and RMIB will come in large envelopes. Wheaton Biomed and Eng uses a regular business envelope (not thick).

That wasn't the case for my two kids. But we are in-bounds so maybe that's why. They were accepted to both in regular envelops. Blair magnet and Blair CAP.

My daughter (8th grader, waiting for magnet results)'s 9th grade friends also told her that their acceptance letters (into Blair and RM) came in thick envelopes.

PP here. We are also in bounds (pretty much everyone is for CAP). Was yours more than a year ago? That might explain the discrepancy. Or, did your kid get waitlisted and get in off waitlist? Last year those accepted outright all got large and/or thick envelopes (at least those of us who posted here -- there's a year-old thread about it).
