new thread-- actual hs magnet results

You might be right. Both that verbal and quantitative are 99 percentile (per my kid's cogat scores) but those programs might require like a 99.9th percentile.

I would guess it’s for CAP. The median NV seems too low for STEM. The median verbal is in high.

My guess Blair magnet only selected kids which have 99% (national, not local) in all three categories. Only one category 99% will have no chance. 99.9 percentile is possible right.

For the PP with an RMIB acceptance (and congrats!!!) can you please give more info on the envelope -- plain white with one piece of paper or more than one piece of paper?

When my kid was accepted to Blair SMAC and RMIB a few years ago, RMIB at least told us how his scores compared to all applicants. So for example his reading score put him in the 94th percentile of all applicants to RMIB. I assumed this meant they were looking to find the most qualified students in the applicant pool (instead of looking at national norms etc).

btw has the test changed in the last couple of years? I remember ds getting a score out of 60 for reading, a score out of 50 for Math and then being told the median score of accepted students for Blair SMAC. There was also a writing test.
Good luck to all your children!

Sorry, typo Non-verbal 45.

Just one missed question on quantitative for PHS. that's impressive.
I had no idea that one was so competitive! We're DCC and am not familiar with that program.

It’s such a great thing that MCPS posted the median scores of those accepted.

They only do this with HS magnet which doesn't look at peer cohort. They stopped reporting median scores for ES and MS magnets after they changed the admissions criteria by looking at peer cohort.
