So looks like that's one bunch of people fully ready for a strong start on August 23.

Is she incapable of common sense?

I mean for crying out loud!!

looks like a bunch of teachers and school employees in person ready to start a school year in person. I'm not seeing the reason for outrage here

A bunch of clueless idiots who are likely transmitting COVID to each other so more and more unvaccinated children are put at risk when school starts in 18 days. That's the reason for outrage.

Those aren’t teachers—they’re principals and other admin— but don’t let reality get in the way of your hurt feelings.

I don't even understand what you are arguing about here?

Who cares if they are teachers or admins? They are FCPS employees who are disregarding FCPS rules about indoor mask wearing.

Are you trying to say it's ok since they are principals, but it would be a problem if they were teachers?

WTF?

What are they disregarding? Teachers aren't required to wear masks if students aren't in the building.

She isn’t my fave, but they had pretty obviously just finished lunch (box lunches in tables). That will be your kids in the cafeteria in a few weeks!!!

People are more dunking on Cohen for being a moron then the Admins.

I was at this meeting. Masks were not worn the whole time. My principal is super lax on mask wearing. This actually does not break any fcps guidance because students were not present. I felt really weird because none of my colleagues were wearing masks, so I didnt wear one. I now regret it. My husband flipped when he found out.

DP. I was surprised because this occurred after we received an email that read, in part:
As of Monday, August 2, all FCPS staff – both in offices and schools – are strongly encouraged to wear a mask at all times indoors:
FCPS is encouraging all staff who work in our offices to show solidarity with schools and wear your mask at all times when you are indoors – even if you are fully vaccinated.
We serve as role models for our students. This practice will help encourage them to follow the universal masking guidance at all times.

I realize it wasn’t required, but I was still struck by how few weren’t encouraged by that email.

Did anyone in the meeting even for one second say that it might be bad optics to have a mask-less meeting the day after Fairfax County put out guidance that all people regardless of vax status should wear masks in county buildings??

Also, was LJC able to communicate in complete sentences or did she try and use emojis?

I’d bet money that Fairfax County adopts this policy by the end of the week.

FEA and FCFT will fight that because their national leaders have already freaked out about vaccine mandates.

As a vaccinated parent of ES kids (who is under a vaccine mandate at work) I would be thrilled.

Time will tell.

Despite arguing in the spring that teachers should be prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccine, state and national teachers’ unions have so far been reluctant to support a mandate. But that might soon change, according to new comments from the powerful head of the American Federation of Teachers.

Locally there has been no real talk about it.

As a teacher, I support a vaccine mandate. We need to do everything we can to protect the little ones who aren’t vaccinated yet.

PP here, also a teacher. I’d be fine with one too.

Children don’t need vaccinations against covid, their risk is negligible.

Not even true anymore. There are many states in the south that are reporting an increase in children being admitted to hospital.

Obviously not, but the idiotic post by Cohen glorifying the whole encounter wins the dunce prize.

Depends on the child. I saw a news article that mentioned two that died. It irks me that they never mention how old these children are. But anyway, it did disclose that one if them was a patient that was being treated for something else. So I think kids who have health issues will be at more risk.

Hopefully she visits this thread so she experiences what it's like to be on the other end of covid extremism.

The child may have died of that something else.

A JHU study analyzed all pediatric COVID deaths in the US and none occurred without co-morbidities. Statistically the chance of a child dying of COVID is less than that of a vaccinated 35 year old. Can it happen? Sure, but it's down in the .002% range. Yes over a large population that's still a few hundred kids, as we've seen, but it's safer than many things. I'll still vaccinate my ES kids when it becomes available, but I don't worry about them. Those who have co-morbidities should be able to do Online Campus, and if they missed that window than Virtual Virginia or VAVA K-12.

I have MULTIPLE friends and family members working in hospitals in the south (Florida and Mississippi. Covid is affecting children more than they have seen before and they are being admitted to hospital more than has been seen before. I do believe that our unvaccinated kids are at risk and that our school system is going to struggle with how to proceed.
