It's good to see and hopefully represents a change in her style. For Ward 3, she's been rather useless. Despite promoting legislation a few years to prevent food deserts, she apparently has done very little to prevent the Palisades from becoming exactly that following the abrupt closure of the Safeway in May. She has also been AWOL on livability issues in the ward - she campaigned on safer streets, yet Ward 3 still has no cycle lanes.

Huh? W3 has the CCT and towpath - both fabulous cycle lanes!!

W3 and the CCT are park service land (so not technically Ward 3) and are useless for commuting for almost all residents of Ward 3.

A cycle lane -- or bike lane -- is a lane painted on a road for the use of cyclist. The CCT and towpath are multiuse trails. And while they go through Ward 3, they don't really serve it, there are no good bicycle-accessible access points between Georgetown and Bethesda.

She was re-elected unopposed. She has been a lot less responsive to anything ever since.

If the contract can't be amended, what can be done? I think at the very least there needs to be an investigation on how this could happen. And Delano Hunter needs to lose his job. I don't care if he was just hired. He showed really poor judgement and needs to go. Jack Evans role needs to be investigated at well. This reeks of a pay to play scheme which he organized. Proving that would make it easy to undo the contract.

I also fully support a protest and sit in the at the field.

BTW, were Hardy kids allowed to use the field yesterday?

Great question. Would love to know.

FYI Maret is asking all employees and parents to begin a letter writing campaign directed at City Council and the mayor. I understand it's about to get ugly.

Maret didn’t use it. And Duke Ellington field sat empty and unused. I hope Putta and the Georgetown ANC members and neighbors fight hard for a artificial turf, multi-use field at Ellington with lights and parking so we can all better serve the youth of DC.

Not to continue the derailment of this thread, but complaining about the grocery store situation in the Palisades shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept of "food deserts." Good grief.

Well there are more DC residents who want to use Jelleff than Maret parents. 40% of Maret kids aren’t dc residents anyway.

Huh? Please explain the “concept”. The 2014 legislation Mary Cheh introduced on food deserts was instigated precisely because of what was going to happen in the Palisades if Safeway closed.
