Trump wanted to release immigration detainees onto the streets of “sanctuary cities"

Anonymous
Who decided to “dump” all the Somalians in Minnesota and Maine or was that just a big coincidence?

What are you babbling about?

Why did most of the Germans go to the midwest? Why did most Chinese go to the west coast? Why did most Italians and Puerto Ricans go to New York? Why are most Cubans in Florida? Why are most Mexicans in the Southwest? Did someone "dump" them there or was it just a big coincidence?

Maybe you need to read about immigration patterns.

Not really if it were done in a respectful manner. Don’t just drop them off unannounced in the middle of the night. Which is exactly what Trump would want to do.

You do realize that sanctuary cities are by and large cities where immigrants - both legal and illegal - ALREADY live. They are already here. And many of our communities are rallying to make it possible for them to live their fullest lives and become contributors to our regions. It's not a punishment - it's the American way.

Exactly - it’s NOT a punishment. So why are Democrats so very outraged?? They should be tickled pink.

For the 100000th time...

It’s not that Dems think it’s a punishment, it’s that Trump and Miller sat down to think of a way to punish Dems for the ICE funding for beds. Trump thinks it’s a punishment he can inflict on Dems in retaliation for budget negotiations.

I think he should go ahead with his plan. If ICE doesn’t have the funds for the buses he should loan out his campaign buses and take full credit for his plan. It would certainly make him look like a compassionate guy.

Yes, we know - you've repeated your spiel for the 100000th time. The point you seem to be deliberately avoiding is: SO WHAT if Trump thought it would be a "punishment"? Many of you have repeatedly said it would *not* be a punishment to receive these immigrants. Though I question how many of you actually live in the targeted sanctuary cities - easy for you to say how much they'd be welcome if you're not even living there.

Finally, what's your explanation as to why Democrats refused funding for ICE beds? If beds are needed, why are they not being funded by the very people who insist these migrants are so welcome here?

POTUS planning punishment for citizens of the his own country is OK in your books?? Seriously???

Oh, for crying out loud. You are completely unable to carry on a normal conversation. The fact is: sanctuary cities (and Democrats in general) are insisting this would be no punishment at all for them, and that they would happily welcome a large influx of immigrants. It's not as if they've announced that it *would* be a punishment. So if they're assuring the country that it's no problem for them, then we should take them at their word. Can even a tiny part of your brain comprehend this, or are you going to continue beating this into the ground?

I agree with that PP - the POTUS sitting down to brainstorm ways to punish US citizens over budget negotiations is deplorable. But I guess that what ya’ll like about him. You certainly have no issue with it.

Here's a question that still hasn't been answered (since you brought up budget negotiations): why did Democrats deny funding for more ICE beds? Riddle me that.

I’ll gladly answer after 46 pages of deflection.

It was asked many pages back, and we're still waiting for our answer - which you don't have.

“Why do you care? It doesn’t matter WHY Dems deny funding.” Isn’t that your line?

So no answer. It's reprehensible that the very people saying immigrants are welcome here aren't even approving funding for much-needed beds. Then don't complain when these immigrants are put on buses and either a) deported or b) delivered to sanctuary cities. Serves you right.

Sorry, I need 46 pages before I’ll answer. What page did you first ask?

In other words, if this had been a Dem's idea, how would liberals be reacting to this measure?

great question

+1
DP. I pointed this out earlier in the thread. If AOC, for instance, had come up with this idea, liberals would be praising her to the heavens. The only variable here is that it was Trump's idea - and so it must be shot down immediately, preferably with as much outrage as possible.

Take the politics out of it and it bocomes a simple question.

Is relocating these people to the sanctuary cities a punishment or not? If so, what’s the point of sanctuary cities? If not, what’s the problem?

Why are you so fixated on “punishment”? Seek help for your anger issues.

So, because of this liberal hypocrisy "call out", the Dems took 40 seats in the House in 2018 and now have control of it. Yep, it's been growing stronger and stronger.

You hear the hypocrisy on this thread.

And when people vote, they'll vote with a PRIORITY. So while your "Hate Free Zone" neighbor is preaching about how horrible Trump is, you will never really know how s/he voted.

No D will win unless s/he has a strong immigration platform that will address the safety concerns many Americans have.

This much I know.

The problem is, people like you have fallen for the "dems are for open borders" BS and there is no discussing it rationally with that perspective. It is a complex issue that doesn't require a wall but does require a plan for how to deal with legal asylum seekers, how to ease the burden on INS courts etc. The rhetoric from Trump and the actions on the ground have been a disaster of his own making.

I haven't fallen for anything.

You either pull for those entering legally or you keep the borders open for all. There is no gray. It's black and white.

I'm waiting on the platforms. Then I'll make my decision. But based on the small segments I've read, they've offered nothing concrete or nothing to limit this overflow. They are far too progressive with their views, which will push more and more moderate Ds to the right.

I didn't vote for Trump, but I knew he'd win. At this point, the Ds are even more fragmented than they were three years ago. Pelosi has lost control and is too fearful to rein in some of her loudmouths. So Ds are all over the map on many issues.

Trump lost by 3 million votes and the GOP has won the popular vote just once in over 30 years. Thats not a party in the pink of health. Dont be delusional. They barely win the EC and thats just tenuous. AMERICANS are not with the con party which uses immigration to demagogue while they take benefits from Most Americans and give them away to the rich as tax cuts. THIS CON GAME has been seen through by enough Americans that the Fraud trickle down party already lost big in 2018. The con man who has never ever crossed 45% in approval is not exactly in any position to win by NOT moderating at all. This is not gonna end well because the conman couldn't get his approval up EVEN AFTER HE SELF EXONERATED from the Russia mess.

Dems are not unified.

That's enough in itself.

You simply don't get Machiavelli. Divide and conquer is a great tactic. Do some research.

There's nothing like Trump to unify the Dems. Just saying.

So are you pro-Palestinian or pro-Israel?

just wondering . . .

I thought the most important issue was immigration . . . isn't that our topic here?

I believe in the two state solution, but I don't see that as being pro one or the other. They both have a right to exist. I don't see this as the big issue of the 2020 election, do you?

Trump will find a way to make it scary for his base.

Trump wants to make us believe that these desperate migrants are an existential threat to the United States; the most powerful nation in world history and a nation made strong by immigrants. Trump and my nephew both know their immigrant and refugee roots. Yet, they repeat the insults and false accusations of earlier generations against these refugees to make them seem less than human. Trump publicly parades the grieving families of people hurt or killed by migrants, just as the early Nazis dredged up Jewish criminals to frighten and enrage their political base to justify persecution of all Jews. Almost every American family has an immigration story of its own based on flight from war, poverty, famine, persecution, fear or hopelessness. Most of these immigrants became workers, entrepreneurs, scientists and soldiers of America.

Most damning is the administration's evident intent to make policy that specifically disadvantages people based on their ethnicity, country of origin and religion. No matter what opinion is held about immigration, any government that specifically enacts law or policy on that basis must be recognized as a threat to all of us. Laws bereft of justice are the gateway to tyranny. Today others may be the target, but tomorrow it might just as easily be you or me. History will be the judge, but in the meantime the normalization of these policies is rapidly eroding the collective conscience of America. Immigration reform is a complex issue that will require compassion and wisdom to bring the nation to a just solution, but the politicians who have based their political and professional identity on ethnic demonization and exclusion cannot be trusted to do so. As free Americans, and descendants of immigrants and refugees, we have the obligation to exercise our conscience by voting for candidates who will stand up for our highest national values and not succumb to our lowest fears.

Excerpt from an August 2013 article by Stephen Miller's uncle, David Glosser. Stephen Miller is the architect of Trump's immigration policies.

Very telling when your own family hates your guts.

You don’t know much, then.

In terms of priorities, most middle and working class Americans are prioritizing healthcare, jobs, and affordable housing.

Immigration is only a fixation for Trump’s base because he’s used it as a wedge and fanned the flames of xenophobia and fear. White guys with assault weapons are far more dangerous to the average American than an illegal immigrant. As a group, illegals commit far fewer crimes by percentage.

My midwestern in-laws couldn’t give a hoot about illegal immigrants. They are concerned about the fact that the only hospital I’m the 50 mile area has closed and with it all the jobs related to it gone. They have grown to appreciate the ACA recognizing that it protects coverage preexisting conditions and wonder what will happen if Trump further guts the ACA with no replacement.

They aren’t going to vote based on illegal immigration, that’s for sure. This is a wedge issue and shame on the GOP ... though these days, the GOP has no shame. No guts. No shame. No integrity.

You do you; I'll do me.

Healthcare, in particular, is an immigration issue. Don't be fooled. If you think illegal immigration doesn't affect the issues you mentioned above, you're fooling yourself. Just watch your premiums grow b/c of free visits to the ER. WE end up paying.

The costs of immigrants in our system are relatively small but more importantly, healthcare is NOT an immigration issue. It’s a systemic issue that is driven by a for profit motive of our health care system. Premiums aren’t ramping up because of immigrants, FFS.

Do you actually believe the crap you’re spewing?

yes they do believe in the stuff he/she is spewing because the cult members are conned to believe that all their issue is due to immigration and not because their party stops them from getting education, healthcare and other benefits and gives that to the rich as tax cuts.

The “illegal” boogeyman gets tons of mileage from the fearful, xenophobic morons.

Facts are your friend.

Instead of attacking, do some basic research. I did.

0.5% of US healthcare costs.

Just like I said: “illegal” boogeyman gets tons of mileage from the morons.

This doesn’t even touch on the tremendous resources given to children of illegal immigrants in our public schools. Clearly, your kids don’t attend one of these schools.
