Your glee at the unemployment of 13,706 people is nauseating. I am laying off all my staff because of the USAID shutdowns. The single moms, the dads with kids with cancer, the fresh-faced kids with their first apartment leases. And since my programs are shut down we aren’t stopping that Ebola outbreak in Uganda or preventing babies from getting Malaria in Nigeria. That’s what we all did all day. And we got paid the kind of salaries that people on this board scoff at, and we live in neighborhoods most of you won’t enter. Because we aren’t rolling in dough based on some big USAID fraud, right? Why was USAID operating in Hungary?

https://rumble.com/v29a3te-usaid-in-hungary.html

Samantha Power didn't seem to think her mission was helping starving people in Africa, but rather building media operations to take out political opponents.

Fascism has taken hold in Hungary. USAID projects provide soft diplomacy to promote democracy (in this case through a free press) as part of overall global stability efforts. There a reason authoritarian leaders or cheering on this effort to dismantle USAID.

Please think through who is supporting the destruction if USAID and what they have to gain from it.
Now you are agreeing that USAID has a primary mission of political interference.

Stopping fascism is kind of important, no?

You got a citation for those stats, or are you just pulling them out of your a$$?

INDEED:

- she funneled money to “approved journalists.” No one can fail to see how problematic that was. No one.

if you are citing gateway pundit and breitbart, or OAN, you are doing it wrong.

It seems there must be some other underlying reason (for corrupt purposes and financial gain) that Elon is going after it so aggressively. I hope the media will start digging!

It is a slush fund for Democrats. Give money to NGOs who give to other funds, who can use the money to promote leftist causes.
Their big mistake was not giving enough money to Republicans so now no one is supporting them.

When the International Space Station was nearly defunded under Clinton, NASA went out and distributed the jobs around the country.

USAID was indeed a slush fund for democrats. Look at the groups to which USAID funneled money?

It was not all “development work.” Much of it was purely political.

If that is the case, why did Marco Rubio and other conservative republicans ask for more money there over the last 30 years?

This is really not true at all, but even if it was, the proper way to change it is through the congress.

Exactly. Congress could have shut down and defunded USAID ages ago. Why didn’t anyone raise issues about this agency until Elon Musk came around and started meddling in the US government? Can you give any plausible good faith explanation for it?

We don’t know anybody did and if they were squashed. The correct thing for Elon to do here would be to put his system of validation through FISMA accreditation and then use it to identify where waste might be. The report would be accessible to Congress and mostly public. Then Congress fixes. Elon, at best, is Edward Snowden

There are procurement and vetting processes for acquiring and implementing software for the US government. Just bringing a bunch of guys to install code is not the way to do it, or at least not legally and without HUGE security implications.

Cite for this? Or is this just more imaginary BS?

Last I saw, the polling for Projext 2025 was around 10% support, so I will go with those polling numbers rather than your made up BS.

Do you have a cite for this, or is this just more alternative facts spewed by MAGA?

Just because it has the acronym “AID” in the name does not mean this agency was solely a charity.
The full name is the “United States agency for international Development”.

The United Way has a higher level of overhead and don’t even get me started about the Red Cross. Their missions as non-profits is much different than the mission of USAID.

International Development also means developing relations and joining efforts with other governments. Supporting and networking with governments who may not give access to outsiders without the offer of aid that they desperately need. If we aren’t giving it now, other less democratic nations may fill that vacuum and then take our access to places and people we need to protect our people worldwide.

This agency was a target for a reason. Musk has been in direct conflict with USAID in the past and their interactions with the South African government.

USAID was like the cool kids in the dorm’s lounge that had the new gaming system that the most popular kids want to play and you were wandering around trying to find a seat.

He has bought the dorm, stolen the gaming system and told the cool kids to move out. Now either he or his friends can show up and remake the lounge and make friends who will hate us forever.

DP. Not our job. I don’t want Russia buying Facebook ads interfering with our elections and I don’t want to interfere in the internal affairs of another country. Especially an EU member.

The more I learn about USAID from the people DEFENDING USAID the more I dislike it.

Aid in the form of medicine, food, infrastructure development? Awesome. Knock yourself out.

Empire building, journalism (propaganda) and meddling in the internal affairs of another country? No thank you. And frankly, I’m not going to get worked up over Elon and Co. putting a stop to that garbage.

If stopping Orban is so important to you, feel free to go over there and do it yourself. But not in my name.

Understood. You're comfortable with making the US less safe. That's what Trump and Musk accomplished here.
