I do think that Democrats (to include me) underestimate Trump and his machine at our own peril. He does seem to have a very loyal base.

The Dem bet is that the loyal MAGA base is not enough to get him elected president. The campaign should be all about expanding beyond his base. There is no evidence that they are successfully doing that against Harris - they were against Biden. If the campaign cannot do that, it doesn't matter how many people show up at a Trump rally or a Trump/Elon interview. It is not effective.

Trump has never had a majority support and in the years since 2020, we had the Dobbs ruling and 4 years of physical and mental degradation of the candidate. There aren't new voters he is attracting and his campaign is all grievance based.

Of course no one is underestimating him or the MAGA base. That is why getting the Dems excited and motivated is so core to the Harris campaign.

Trump hasn't been his usual weird self ever since the assassination attempt. I don't know if it's PTSD or a trauma response, but he's not right.

The upside to this very strange election cycle is that I think this is likely the last time Democrats or Republicans run geriatric candidates. Would be surprised to see 70+ candidates going forward. Elderly candidates have been a disaster for both parties.

Seems like a lot of people forgot he was president once and a total train wreck. Not to mention he incited a riot that caused an insurrection. Totally disqualifying. And not mentally sound to run a company nevermind be president. Wouldn’t even get hired at the mall!

Most of those who died from covid after a certain point (the vaccine?) were Republicans. Trump’s actions literally killed his base.
