If shahid was never speeding no one would’ve died and if ben checked the intersection like he’s legally obliged too and stopped no one also would’ve died. The only thing that disgusts me is how one side got away with it while one had to suffer all the consequences.

Even assuming there was some blame on the SUV driver (I don't agree with this, but let's just go with it), he played his cards right - cooperated with prosecution and got immunity. Shahid had a chance to plea, but decided to take this to trial. He got exactly what he deserved for his stupidity 2 years ago and after the accident.

I think he already pay the price, the parents yelled at him a lot for it.

Being at fault aside, likely whole family is living a emotional, financial and social nightmare. One day your 18 year old is graduating and going to college and next day he is in a lethal accident and being charged for manslaughter.

It's very likely there were signs of entitlement prior to this killing. The parents clearly indulged him. And he clearly had no concerns for anyone other than himself and his drug-using friends.

Why are you randomly throwing allegations of drug use on his friends?

DP and I only know about this case from reading the thread and the links in it but I definitely read that at least one passenger was smoking pot. I’m also the PP who remembered that he was at VT and that turned out to be correct.

Weed is now legal in Virginia, and second its 2024, no one cares if someone is smoking pot we are in the 1900s anymore.

Under 21, no it's not legal. Just like drinking under 21 isn't legal.

I am not in anyone side so I just don't understand of doing this again. I think it will be very painful and we just to forgive and move on and God Bless everyone. GOD, Aliah, Dios , Who you pray FOR IF you pray. is fine.
just forgive and put away the Civil trial. There no winners today, we are all hurt. and we can't relive this

The point of the civil trial is for the victims or in this case the victims' families. The criminal trial was for Shahid. The civil trial will be for the victims.

+1 and to pay the bills for the poor girl who is working still to pay off her medical bills along with the mother who had to take a second job. Meanwhile, your kid went off to college still is partying as if nothing happened.

having a second job, for paying bills should be a different story for a different day.

The second job wouldn’t be necessary if Shahid had been going a different speed.

Am I the only one who sees the driver of the 4 runner as a victim too? I feel really bad for him too.

That's not what "victim" means.

Who the hell came up with the rumour that he was at Virginia tech partying?💀 Y’all just believe anything you hear I guess and make assumptions and pray for the worst on him on something you never confirmed. His lawyer literally mentioned it today about how he goes to nova….. him and his family can’t afford anything and I don’t understand why y’all just can’t grasp that. His dad is literally a bus driver. It’s a poor family period.

I do. I feel really bad for the driver of the 4Runner. He stopped for pedestrians. Yes, stopping in the traffic lane is technically a fault but this is something that happens regularly because pedestrians are unpredictable. In my experience, I’ve waited to let pedestrians go. The peds stop and wave for me to go. And we both sit there and then both start going at the same time. Just today, I stopped in a traffic lane because geese crossed my lane. Multiple cars stopped to let the geese pass. Someone could have barreled into me at 81mph and we’d be SOL.

I understand the victims family filing a civil suit. They are in tremendous pain and need to do something. But the 4Runner driver could have been any of us.

Anonymous wrote:The jury resemble Fairfax county and not everyone was born here, so it’s hard for some to real jury instructions and that’s what’s might be taking a long.

The defendant tons of friends are here to support him.

It really wasn’t that long given the seriousness of the crime and volume of testimony.

There is no universe in which one could reasonably conclude that the turning driver committed an infraction, or even drove in a hazardous way. That's just a hare-brained scheme cooked up by a dumb defense attorney who's apparently gotten rich finding common ground with dumb juries.

What amazes me is how the defense's closing argument basically boiled down to "My client isn't just guilty, he's effing guilty. My hopes are that you will be so impressed by his audacity that you, like him, will become underwhelmed by the value of the womens' lives that he prematurely ended."

He was granted immunity so they certainly could have charged him with something.

Hopefully he’s held accountable in the civil case.

Keep dreaming family of Usman.

Usman should be held accountable, including jail time.

The 4Runner doesn’t deserve jail time but should be held accountable for his contribution towards their deaths.

Huh? It didn’t take that long at all.
