Jack Evans (Ward 2 council member) is likely under criminal investigation

It couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. They covered this on WAMU this morning. They said the City Council had an ethics investigation running on this issue and suddenly dropped it. This usually happens when a criminal investigation is initiated.

It will be interesting to see who would run to take his spot. He's been the Ward 2 rep for a loooooooooooong time and sits on the board of WMATA.

Ward 2 is all of downtown, Georgetown and over to Shaw. There are a lot of great people who could make a good CM there.

Whomever wins the Dem primary will probably only get 25-30% of the vote, max. It will be a very crowded field.

It will be interesting to see if Georgetown still has the political muscle to get solidly behind one candidate.

Evans has managed to skate by for years despite a certain oleaginous reputation. But I believe that the thin ice is finally melting around him.

A good-governance challenger can knock him off in the next primary election -- unless the FBI public integrity unit gets there first (which is a distinct possibility after the Post article).

He should be investigated for his constant abuses of parking laws alone.

More than once I've seen his dark blue Sebring convertible parked in a crosswalk at Verizon Center / Cap Area

Interesting. I always wondered how he had remained so many years with so little competition. His philosophy on public schools was that everyone in Ward 2 was using private schools (not true at all!)

Councilmembers are exempt from parking regulations.

Yet somehow the other 12 members of the Council aren't notorious for parking like assholes.

Also give a ticket to the Warnke woman. She deserves several simply for being herself.

Not quite. Brianne Nadeau is notorious for this too but strangely never gets called out.

“The chair of the D.C. Council said member Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) acted inappropriately when he emailed business proposals to potential employers and offered them his influence and connections as an elected official.

“I believe our code of conduct provides that a member should not use council resources for personal purposes, for personal gain,” Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) said at a Monday news conference. “On the face of it, that appears to be exactly what happened.”
