What's your parenting mindset/belief that goes against the grain?

I despised having potty trained kids. It's so annoying having to run to the bathroom every time we are in a public place. Diapers were so easy.

Most of the people who claim their kid should be a model / actor and will retort "Oh no, people stop me ALL the time and tell me she's a baby doll and should be in commercials" are a) lying and b) delusional. There is a direct negative correlation 97% of the time. The more they insist that, the more their child looks like a gopher.

I'm UMC, did boarding schools and an ivy, and I would never send my kid to a private or a boarding school and think those and my alma mater were a waste of money. It's all so absurd.

Less is more, in my opinion - less toys, less sugar, less treats, less activities. Let the children get bored! They come up with such cool ideas when they are bored!

I once had some insist that my very pale infant daughter looked like a doll and all it made me was super uncomfortable. Why is this something someone would want??

Extended breastfeeding. DD is now 2.

Co sleeping. Again, she’s 2.

I don’t look like a crunchy mom. I don’t think I’d be one. But there it is.

We don't have hard and fast screentime limits.

Yes, we ask them to turn it off or find something else to do, but there's no X minutes per day rule.

My kids are 13 and 5.

(We also did not do any sleep training or CIO & DD nursed middle of the night until 2.5, didn't sleep straight through until 3.)

I'm the OP of the freakishly early thread and totally think this too!!!!

I don't know if it is against the grain but the other one I think I have is a pretty casual attitude towards letting my kids try/get hurt/be independent. Even my 18 month old I try to let him do things without interference even if it is uncomfortable for me (within reason, he's not chopping onions or anything). I know this is popular but I feel like out in public people always look at me like I have 10 heads when I watch my kid fall and cry and then wait for them to come to me or decide to ask for me or things like that.

I don't slather my kids in sunscreen.
I think they need Vitamin D.

Kids are supposed to be loud and crazy and play. I don’t shush them or yell if they run in the house.

Of course it's easier. That's why so many people wait too long to potty train - they are lazy and don't want to deal with it. How is this going against the grain?

I let my kid walk to/from school alone starting in 2nd grade in DC.

Perfectly dressed/stlyed/coiffed little girls make me kind of sad. Like they're not allowed to run and play and get messy.

Don't @ me.

I don’t monitor every item that my kids eat. I’m not stuffing them with pixie sticks but I’m not going to throw a fit over an occasional cookie.

My cousin lost her sh-t when someone gave her kid orange juice.

WTF? No. Its way easier to have potty trained kids, as long as you don't use a potty. Just teach them to use the regular toilet. Its way easier to send your kid to the bathroom than to haul around diapers.
