OK, now I'm curious, especially since a couple other people gave a quick "amen" to your comment. Can you give me an example of what you mean by "catty talk"? I can understand the fake smiles and fake small talk, but that's just what often happens when you're forced to talk to people you don't really know well. But what do you mean by "catty talk"? Just not something I've ever experienced. I am imagining ridiculous dialogue from a 1980s John Hughes movie, complete with not-subtle put-downs about clothes and hair. Could you give some real-life examples?

How about your post?

I don't understand your point. Are you thinking my question is catty?

New poster - I didn't get the feeling the John Hughes-referring poster was catty, it sounds like she is geniunely curious, as am I. Do you feel like the moms at school are talking behind your back or each other's back, or judging people based on superficial things? What is the catty behavior?

Just wondering - I have an infant so don't do the school drop off, and daycare is in my building so I'm friends or friendly with other moms or dads. Just wondering what I might be in for in a couple of years.

I haven't seen any cattiness when I drop or pick up my kid. On the contrary, the ones that pick up or drop off their kids are the nice moms.

Hey, I'm asking DCUMers for examples of catty comments, and no one is responding?!? I thought I'd be drowning in examples! What gives? Water water everywhere ...?

Let it go, woman. My guess is that you're the one with the catty talk. That's why you haven't moved on yet.

I just gave my toddler chocolate with his dinner because he's been such a beast. It worked.

Confession: The poster who recommends The Feminine Mistake in every single thread that remotely mentions SAHMs gets on my nerves even more than the crazy mean nanny troll. How "feminist" is it to think that some of us are so stupid that we need to a read a book to figure things out for our family? I mean, is it the author who keeps posting about it? She's got to be getting some kickback.

Just wait until someone points out that it's The Feminine Mystique, not the Feminine Mistake.

It does. And I'm 3 days late, but the pregnancy test was negative. The anxiety is killing me.
