Miranda founded an organization whose members have stated that teachers are "groomers" and children are "being indoctrinated with CRT". She has to toe the line with these crazies because they made her. APE tries to make themselves look presentable, but still can't be transparent with the public. The other one is a kid whose only connection to Arlington/APS is that he moved here just over a year ago? He has no investment in APS otherwise. But since he's a candidate, I'll see what he has to say too, bot because I like him but because I have to. Lousy candidates. I'm just sorry for our kids. |
Parents have always been very engaged and active in APS. We’ve had intense debates over APS decisions in the past. However, the pandemic triggered some bullies in our community (many who weren’t active before) and the discourse deeply fractured our community. It got really ugly for a while. Republicans took advantage of the situation and rode the wave of discourse straight to the governor’s mansion. |
The best argument for getting ACDC out of the SB elections is Miranda Turner. They're running a DINO because she said she's a Dem. She's going to have to prove that to me. |
100% |
A certain group of parents became very, very angry at APE during the pandemic because they wanted full time school before vaccines. They formed a group called Arlington Parents for Education. Their behavior was something else. Miranda was a founder and until recently led the group. She may ride their anger to a school board seat, I guess we will see. It's happened in a lot of other places. |
sorry, angry at APS! not APE. |
Will APE be funding Miranda's campaign? We still don't know where its funding comes from, do we? https://www.wbez.org/stories/conservative-groups-back-candidates-as-school-board-races-become-ideological-battlegrounds/e0eb12f3-734a-437c-9591-c3db4146e796 |
I just caught up in this thread. Whew. I guess with APE present we're going to have another nasty race.
Too lazy to backtrack to quote previous postings but I agree that endorsements may not be handed out so freely this election. Both candidates are problematic for different reasons. I don't think Miranda had any real endorsements the last time she ran. I expect more of the same. There's very few Dems that want to be associated with perceived dark money and vouchers for schools coming from the right. Like it or not, APE is lumped together with all of those groups because they represent them in their "big tent." |
I have no idea how the SB races are elsewhere, but I'm scared this time, like you. We've never had such a race before; a "normal" candidate is missing. Miranda Turner seems to have a lot of devoted fans and a lot of abject haters. I don't know what to believe. Antonio is barely a college graduate with no family here, nor any ties to APS or Arlington at all. He's from California - no experience, but high political ambitions, likely also no intention of staying here. |
Go to threads from 2020-21 when Miranda ran the first time. That will really tell you who she is. Maybe her and Mary K's debate at the NAACP candidate forums are still up? Boy. That was something. So tone deaf and frankly racist-lite.
I can't believe she's cleaned up her act 3 years later. It's bad. Two bad candidates. |
OMG the NAACP debate. It's so infamous. I don't even know how those moderators kept a straight face. |
She’s hoping people will forget. |
Naw. It was full on racist. And I'll say it over and over again. |
Here was one debate: https://arlingtondemocrats.org/event/school-board-candidate-debate/?instance_id=1051 |
He does not have any connection at all to APS. If he moved here, he only just did so for this race. But I agree with you. Arlington needed a strong candidate with broad appeal. This is such a rich and large school district, it's a shame we don't have any additional candidates. |
