To make it even worse, the students were told to log in and complete online assignments.

They had to email requests to their teachers to request a Zoom call if any questions.

So…no teacher led online instruction at all.

Just kids sitting at home in Brooklyn all on their own.

I would be livid if I were living in that district.

Our recent flight to Houston had many migrants, presumably with government paid tickets to go with the folders of government paperwork they were all holding. So many had colds etc. Two reeked, literally smelled like they hadn't showered in weeks as they passed by the aisle. I felt horrible for them and the people they would be sitting next to. Some were in shower shoes, inappropriate for the weather. I know it sounds small, but there are a lot of assumptions being made by the government here about how to handle the migration crisis and treat citizens and documented residents fairly (like this guy above). At least screen people for sickness, offer them showers and a change of clothes, or charter flights rather than pass them off onto airlines full of paying residents during the holiday season. OR, disincentivize irregular migration (there's a thought). How is this sustainable?

Yes, why doesn’t Congress overhaul immigration?!

Democrats put forward a bill that would greatly increase the number of Border Patrol agents by 1300 as well as other measures to improve border security and enforcement. The bill would also have provided more staff to address the massive backlog of migrant cases, allowing us to more quickly deport many of the economic migrants and asylum seekers who do not qualify for asylum.

Republicans voted against it. Republicans haven't provided any coherent alternative. They can't even manage to pick a speaker. Republicans also haven't provided any kind of immigration reform proposals whatsoever. The last time we had anything at all was decades ago.

Congress is dysfunctional. Republicans love to grandstand and throw blame around and talk about "come to the border" but where it actually comes to rolling sleeves up and putting together legislation all they do is play games.

Democrats didn't put forward the bill. Biden did. And, it was filled with money for processing and transporting migrants.
The border budget has been increased significantly in the past 2 years. And, what has that gotten us? A greater surge in migrants entering. This administration has made it clear that more money means more migrants. Why would Congress give him more money when the problem has only gotten worse with more money?
Republicans did put forward a bill. HR 2. Passed the House months ago. Schumer won't take a vote on it.

Again, whether Biden's or the Democrats bill is irrelevant - it would add a much-needed 1300 additional border patrol agents. And what the Republicans get wrong about "processing" is that the part of the processing needed is adjudication of cases. There's a 5+ year backlog, FFS - and 80+ percent would not be eligible, HR2 doesn't actually fix that backlog. But the Democrats bill DOES address the backlog.

Meanwhile HR2 does have a lot of problems, for example it will remove asylum eligibility from many people who actually are trying to escape violence and for any and all asylum seekers, it places them into a detention facility in the desert. It will leave unaccompanied minors stuck in limbo with no help.
