To me, eating clean and eating low carb are opposites. I eat clean (mostly). Here's what I eat in a day (not necessarily in order):

- 1 generous cup coffee, with half and half
- apple w/ unsweetened sunflower seed butter
- roasted and salted peanuts or other nuts
- roasted seaweed snack
- another apple plain, or maybe some grapes, maybe a few prunes, or other fruit
- hummus w/ some kind of wholesome grain bread or cracker
- roasted veggies w/ some kind of curry or sauce. Tonight it'll be mixed squash, sweet, and red potatoes
- scoop of ice cream for dessert. Probably mint chocolate chip. but generally, some kind of dessert every day.

I work out 6-7 days on this diet, both cardio/running, HIIT, and weights a couple times a week. I feel good, strong, and not deprived. Also maintained a pretty significant weightloss on it!

I know what you mean in that they are opposite. I want green veggies, lean meat, and I need help from there.

Can you tell us a little about your motivation? low carb tends to include a lot of meat, and eating that much meat and cheese multiple times a day isn't conducive to "clean eating."

If this is about health or sustainably losing weight, I'd suggest going more plant based - that's the easiest road to eating cleanly.

I’m going for health and feeling good.

I’m thinking:
Breakfast: veggie omelette
Lunch: fajita chicken on a salad
Dinner: soup
Snacks: veggies and hummus,?
Anyway, I’m just uninspired.
Anonymous
Breakfast: plain whole milk Greek yogurt, add fruit & nuts
Lunch & dinner: roasted or grilled fish, pork tenderloin, chicken, turkey, grass fed beef with salad (I like spinach with homemade vinegrette), roasted or sauteed veggies. I eat all the veggies, including sweet potatoes, beets, peas etc. I'm not a huge fan of raw veggies. Homemade chicken or turkey soup with lots of veggies & lentils. I also eat black beans, I like Ina Garten's wild rice salad, avocado. Snack is always fruit. A tiny bit of dark chocolate. Coffee & tea. I eat rice only when I have sushi.

To me low carb is no pasta, bread, sugar, pastries, rice but I don't calculate the carbs or cut any veggies. I'm 43 y/o with 3 small kids, 5'7 and 125 lbs so it works for me. I don't really have time to exercise a lot.

Thanks for the ideas, this is what I’m looking for.

Those are great goals! But I don't really get why you want to go 'low carb' - it's fine for a crash diet before a wedding or reunion or something, but long term is motivating and unhealthy. Carbs aren't bad for you, and I don't know why or how this myth gets perpetuated. Especially carbs that are in whole things like fruits, vegetables, beans, etc.

Follow Michael Pollan's advice: "eat food (real food, ie, clean food). mostly plants (fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, etc). Not too much (don't stuff yourself silly).

Don't eat food that comes from a box. Eat foods that are whole and look recognizable to what they grew as. Cook. Don't worry about carbs. Eat the apple! Don't eat the cupcake (but sure, once in a while go for it). Carbs are not an enemy nutrient - it's about what kind of food carries the "carb."

Listen, I’m not afraid of apples. Lower carb is how I feel best. Please accept that I know what I’m asking for. I am not looking for options, I am looking for food ideas. Come on now, you’re not the only person who has ever read the quote about eating food, mostly plants, not too much.

Of course I meant opinions and not options.

OP, I'm assuming you've discussed this plan with a registered dietitian, correct? And s/he agrees that this is a good idea for you?

I make a batch off crustless quiche/egg cups every week and eat them for breakfast. Eggs, cheese, veggies, half and half
Lunch is usually dinner leftovers, fish/veggies/mashed cauliflower or steak/veggies etc, salad with tuna/chicken/eggs

Dinner can be anything really just with no carbs, taco salad, fajita salad, mostly fish and shrimp with veggies and mashed cauliflower (we really like mashed cauliflower if you can't tell lol)
I do sautéed peppers/onions/mushrooms and top with some marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella

snacks
almonds, nut butters, ranch and veggies, a handful of berries, cheese, shrimp cocktail

Why would OP need to consult a dietitian? He/She has said they feel better low carb....so that's what they do. I am a former RD and not everyone needs to consult a dietitian to figure out what is best for them.

Meat is the most nutrient dense food there is, and the nutrients in meat can actually be absorbed by humans unlike a lot of what is mentioned above. A modern day apple is just a sugar bomb and will not provide satiety.

NP. What? I eat clean and we eat paleo (which includes a lot of good quality meat). Yes, if you're eating conventional meat then that's full of who-knows-what, but if you're buying fresh local organic pasture-raised meat, especially when you buy direct from the farm and you know their practices, that's pretty good for you. Full of minerals, protein, good fats, vitamins. I guess it's probably harder to find good quality meat in the DC area than here in CA though.
