Is this the beloved music teacher I always hear about?
How can he be on a $50k bond if this is “This is one of the most violent rapes the state has seen in some time?” https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/dc-elementary-school-music-teacher-accused-of-rape-in-montgomery-county/2018/10/16/5b926cee-d18c-11e8-83d6-291fcead2ab1_story.html?utm_term=.4f08179305cf |
Because he has no criminal record and is innocent until proven guilty. |
There are many people with no record and all charges are innocent until proven guilty. What’s the point of bond then? |
He already acknowledged they had sex, if her injuries required surgery and are stated to be as bad as police say, that’s more than enough to call for increased bail. |
| No, this is not the "beloved music teacher" you always hear about, that teacher retired years ago. |
Thanks. |

| Sickening. Wish I hadn't clicked on that link. |
The prosecutors asked for him to be denied bond. The judge disagreed. From WJLA: Montgomery County District Court Judge Patricia Mitchell went against the prosecution’s request to deny bond. Instead, she granted Gonzalez a $50,000 bond. Two days after his arrest, he posted 10 percent ($5,000) and was released from jail. |
The point of bond is to create an incentive for people to show back up to court and not flee before their next appearance. It's a way to encourage compliance with the justice system while not making people who are presumed innocent stay incarcerated (thus losing jobs and child custody and other important things) while awaiting trial. |
+1. I'm shocked. I didn't have in-depth interactions with him, but from what I know, this seems out of character. Tough discussions with kids within the Shepherd community. |
| When I heard about this I thought that perhaps the judge who granted bail (given the circumstances) must have been none other than Mr. Brett Kavanaugh! |
Not a chance. State courts handle sex crimes. Federal courts (unless the crime is committed in DC) do not. |
I mentioned it briefly to my child, who was happy to hear he wasn’t teaching anymore. He apparently was extremely strict and threatened swift and immediate action for misbehavior. I read the article and it is hard to imagine consensual sex that would require reconstructive surgery. Horrific! |
And he told the cops, while explaining how it was consensual, that he gave her THREE SEPARATE SHOWERS over the course of the night to wash off blood? Jesus Christ this person is a sociopath. |
