I'd say that the BSC DA does have an eye on them but I wouldn't trust it. All these kids from last season went to other DAs (Arlington/ DC united and Mclean). I'm sure BSC has more than enough talent to choose from on their side of the Potomac. Also some players are not formally scouted because that would be ridiculous. Though, I've heard of players being invited to practice with the team or even guest in tournaments. Which is common around this area. So, there is an awareness of the quality of some players that try-out. Don't fool yourself thinking that BSC south coaches are having first conversations with players and parents at try-outs. |
Yeah right. Have to call BS on that. This is a guy whose leading calling card is his 2006 Team's Got Soccer Ranking. I am sure it is all about the player development though. |
What is it about then? As an informed source, I can assure you that it is all about the player development with that team. Do you think the coach composed that tryout notice? There are administrators who handle that sort of thing at a big club. |
Coaches don't have to scout, they simply talk to other coaches or parents. There are a handful of names/faces that coaches know of. |
I hope the girls DA turns out nothing like the boys DA. What a disaster. You guys talk about Loudoun-Arlington-etc as if they have a boys DA...yet in actuality...they don't.
And you wonder why the Spirit deal with Loudoun and Arlington fell through on the girls side. They want DA in name only. They don't want to commit resources away from their real money makers. Incompetence and large egos at the club level...hope members start seeing the leadership for what they truly are. Either you are all in or you are not. Need to decide before someone decides for you...oops...already happened. |
Could depend your definition of 'scouting.' BSC-South coach definitely came and watched 06 boys play in their regular games and ask them to come try out. 'Scouting-lite' perhaps? |
8:18 True, but don't many of the top coaches do this? |
So what happens with these elite teams that are short-handed? Can anyone just show up and play? |
They aren't short handed, but there is always room for another strong player. |
Some really are short-handed. I'd heard a Braddock Road team was down to 11 (for 11v11 games) because parents thought ECNL travel would be too much. But that was a few weeks ago -- I'd hope they're up to a reasonable number now. |
BRYC is short handed because BRYC is no longer in CCL. On the girls side there is ECNL but the boys? There are other options that are better tested. |
Boys are also in ECNL. Travel is much worse. No Va. teams, only 2 Md. teams. |
HUH ? I thought everyone hates CCL over U12. Are you saying enough would prefer CCL over ECNL that they leave the almighty BRYC ? |
I'm saying that the boys DA is established as the top boys league and that the boys ECNL cost to much for what one would get out of it. If you can't make a DA team then CCL is money better spent than on an unproven and expensive boys ECNL. Either way your not in a top league so why spend money as if you are? |
From the outside I thought CCL / State Cup was working fairly well for BRYC. Some of the teams competed nationally. Not sure for all the extra travel and expense whether ECNL adds much to that.
With Arlington, BRYC, and Loudoun, CCL offered some high level U15 - U18 teams. Enough to get some college attention - at least locally. I am surprised BRYC did not get any DA teams (U12 - U14) like the other major northern VA clubs. |
