Well, the story angles were warped b/c they didn't wait for more details. So people were up in arms over a false incident. The story fed into a liberal agenda - empowering one side immediately . . . until more facts were shared which crushed the liberal agenda.

I know that the internet has changed reporting. Many of the stories are inaccurate and poorly written b/c reporters are competing over who gets the story first. Quality goes down, which increases the chances of posting inaccurate information.

THAT'S the deal.

I agree the story confirmed their priors and they were surely excited to report it. But what are they supposedly to do? Toss in a few more “allegedly”-s? I don’t think tossing in a few words like that really changes the character of a story— just as I didn’t think it was cool for the media to append “if true” to that debunked Michael Cohen story from a few weeks back and call it a day

Word choice should be a top priority. Using the word, lynching, when he had a rope loosely around his neck incited the reader. Be objective in reporting. Think of a job performance report. A boss isn't saying an employee a dumb a**. She is simply reporting observations based on the duties of the job. The observations will speak for themselves.

Can you imagine if it had been reported absent of any heated words?

Empire actor, Jussie Smollett, reported to authorities that two men had placed a rope around his neck. He suffered no abrasions from the rope, although sources stated he had a cut on his right cheek. The incident occurred around 2 am, shortly after Smollett had entered a 24-hour Subway shop.

yada yada - People can make inferences based on the facts reported. Once you add in a word like lynching, however, the reporter is no longer sharing facts; s/he is interpreting the facts, which isn't his/her job.

All of that hype could have been avoided. But those opportunistic reporters fed right into Jussie's agenda - as did many actors and politicians, who now look like idiots.

Nope. They’ve dropped it like it was hot.

Yep. Much like the gov., lt gov, and attorney general in Richmond.

Actually they’ve started defending the Gov and Attny Gen. WAPO had an opinion piece doing that last week.

As for the Lt Gov, they’re busy trying to dig up/invent dirt on the women he raped, so as to discredit them.

Ever heard of The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Smollett has done far more harm than good, and for that alone he should be ashamed.

If he did it to highlight the neccesity of the Kamela Harris anti-lynching law than maybe it was worth doing? That said, the investigation has not been concluded and many of the "leaks" have been dubious.

You can’t possibly be that stupid.

NP here. Don't call people stupid. That is part of the problem. Make your point without insulting people.

DP. Do you give the same advice to liberals who call Trump voters all manner of insults? No, didn’t think so.

Evidently, stupid is not okay to use; deplorable and comparisons to Nazis are okay to use.

Exactly. Their sense of proportionality is nonexistent.

Wow. How differently female accusers are treated (by liberals) depending on whether the accused is a conservative or a liberal.

Oh please. You conservatives wrote the book on misogyny and repression of women. The POTUS is a man who bragged about grabbing women by their genitalia as a perk of their celebrity. So stop.

This is so funny how all the libs got shamed by this guy.....

Some piece of work! Kudos to The police.

Smollett may now be prosecuted by the fbi because he paid the bodybuilders to also write and mail the threatening letter a week before the alleged attack.

This sounds like justification. Really?

I still don't understand the point in slamming "the enemy" by bringing up Trump's actions. Many presidents have had affairs. They were just smarter about hiding them, except for Clinton. I don't think he was very cautious . . . But people LOVED him! They still do.

And people acted like their criticism of him was based on ethics, morals, laws.

But when we see they turn aside when people on their side commit similar, or even worse, misdeeds, it exposes their criticism for the partisanship it is, and their supposed ethics, morals, and respect for laws are demonstrated to be non-existent.

That is one reason Harris' response is so telling. She could have been entirely sympathetic to Jussie without jumping in with both feet. And once she jumped in with both feet, she could have been more coherent in back tracking. Instead, she was fully ready to knee jerk at an accusation against someone saying "MAGA" but wants everyone to be more cautious and circumspect about knee jerking now that things look more like Jussie staged the deal.

The hypocrisy demonstrates that there's no real core belief in truth. It's all about supporting my side.

I am now wary of citing anything from TMZ, but . . .

https://www.tmz.com/2019/02/19/jussie-smollett-empire-role-slashed-alleged-attack/

Production sources tell TMZ ... Jussie was supposed to have 9 scenes and a big musical number in the second to the last episode -- which is being shot now -- but, 5 of his scenes have been cut, and his musical number has been 86'd.

As for the remaining 4 scenes ... we're told he's no longer the focus. The scene features an ensemble, meaning he's flanked by a number of cast members.

Yes, I have just read it on Twitter this morning.

Reading the TMZ article about the case going to the grand jury as early as today..this line made me laugh: “ As one source put it, "It was almost like a bad spy movie." “
