It's all about Trump wanting loyalists to protect him. Comey was not beholden to Trump, so Trump can't guarantee his loyalty. Trump sees that as a threat.

Well, also, a key difference between Trump and Hillary is that one of them is POTUS and the other one isn't. Also, one of them just fired the FBI Director.

Isn't it a possibility that Trump wanted to get rid of Comey, then Rosenstein said he wasn't pleased with Comey and didn't see how working with him was going to work smoothly, so Trump said "that's all I needed to hear. Let's do it." Likely Trump's enormous ego didn't want to give up credit for having the idea on his own so when questioned today, he twisted it a bit.

I think both things can be true.
