To try and distinguish himself and his known campaign associates from the ongoing investigation into Russian efforts to demean HRC's campaign. This is not hyperbole. Had Yates not made damned clear that she repeatedly told the WH that Flynn was compromised 24 hours ago, after Comey misstated the scope of the email"problems" his would never have happened and everyone knows that.

I would have fired him after negotiating with Hillary over taking the email server with classified material on it. You don't negotiate, you confiscate it immediately, no questions asked.
