Those IL rankings aren’t very rigorous or reviewable, to be charitable. Laxnumbers at least has a transparent model. Under those, fwiw, Heights is 18th for MD, which isn’t bad given the state, but Langley is unranked and doesn’t rate very high. |
You're the ultimate Heights hater dad holy crap. What did they do to hurt you? |
| SJC is so bad at the X, any team can beat them , the Heights included. I don’t know the answer but what WCAC teams are strong there. I know PVI is not. I know GZ is. |

Paul VI - WCAC is here to climb back up 9. DeMatha - outside looking in 10. Whoever the 2nd best public is HM - There is no hm when 2 publics are ranked in the top 10. |
Trying to convince yourself that Landon is good? Funny list. |
1. Landon: Bears looked impressive during their Spring break trip down in Florida against the best competition the state offers (Benjamin and Saint Andrews). Bears have two good FOGOs and goalie play has been very good. 2. Gonzaga: Eagles have the best FOGO in the area and a strong keeper. Purples Eagles, similar to Landon are very good in between the lines. Good win last night against a historically strong Torrey Pines program. Will the Eagles have tired legs when they square off against Bullis on Friday night? 3. Bullis: As I've said before, the Bulldogs have the best individual talent on their roster as both ends of the field. Team lacks chemistry. Monster showdown on Friday night vs Gonzaga as this will be the game of the week. 4. SJC: Hard to win the big games when you are playing defense 65% of the game. SJC's goalie is very good. FOGO and wing play need to improve. The Maryland bound middie is the real deal! 5. Good Counsel: we will find out how good this Falcon squad is today when they play IMG Academy. Falcons have played a "soft schedule" other than Lawrenceville thus far. 6. Georgetown Prep: Lil Hoyas have plenty of individual talent on its roster but don't do the little things right. Can't clear, commit too many penalties, or pick up GB's. GP can turn around their season this afternoon against defending NJ State champion and NJ powerhouse Don Bosco Prep. Prediction, Hoyas pull off a shocker this afternoon! 7. EHS: The Maroon are young and will continue to improve each week under HC Conklin who is a phenomenal coach. Don't read too much into their loss yesterday to STAB as STAB is putting a major emphasis on their lax program with Nic Bell (former Taft HC) at the helm. 8. The Heights: the young Cavs are undefeated but have played a very soft schedule. They do have some nice younger weapons on the offensive side of the field. Depth will be a major factor when they square off against the bigger WCAC programs in league play. 9. St Mary's Ryken: The Knights have two good wins under their belt (Christchurch from VA and perennial WCAC foe, DeMatha). People forget but the Knights used to have a competitive program back in the day in Southern MD as they routinely pumped out good teams who competed with the best in the WCAC. 10. DeMatha: The Stags are always scrappy and athletic. Was the loss to Ryken earlier in the season a fluke? Time will tell. Neutral Observer |
| Heights are extremely well coached, but just don't have the horses. |
Agree... The ceiling can only be so high when you have a roster of 25 kids. |

Top 4 seem appropriate, for now. Quibbles I’m sure as btwn where within those 4 slots, all likely defensible takes. Putting EHS (glad they’re trying hard, and that they’ve got a great coach, but the product absolutely doesn’t warrant placement anywhere on this list), GP (reputation does not warrant placement - sure they’ve got talent, but this isn’t a showcase ranking) or DeMatha in a top ten is just not grounded in the evidence. For now anyway. Maybe the season will reveal something different than the data now shows, but the data doesn’t support this list as is. |
Outside that top quad, the quality of play this season is just not high level lax. Not time for hand wringing about the state of things long term - yet - but they just aren’t any good this year, so when they play teams that actually know how to play the game, they’re gonna get mangled. |

USA Lacrosse most recent national top 25 https://www.usalacrosse.com/magazine/usa-lacrosse-high-school-boys-national-top-25-rankings Landon at #16 Bullis at #21. Not sure one is really better than the other this year but it will work itself out over time. GZ will crack the top 25 next week with their win over Torrey Pines and assuming the Eagles stomp their Jesuit rivals GP. I believe the Eagles are starting to get hot and will knock off Bullis come Friday night. SJC at some point needs to win a big game. Yes, they played a brutal gauntlet (no shame in losing to Saint Anthony's or Culver) but the Taft win doesn't mean much given the Rhinos needed overtime to beat Prep. Taft is a shell of a program it once was. Don't believe, watch how their season pans out in the New England West this year. The loss to BL is also suspect as this is the weakest the Lakers have had in years. |
