Yet another GOP shutdown?

Musk totally played him.

Actually, quite the opposite. The fact that the GOP is rolling over and showing their belly on this *before he's even in office* is a clear indicator that they'll continue to do his bidding. They'll completely change the rules so their slim majority will be able to pass whatever he desires. Strap in, folks, this will be Kaptain Kaos at full-tilt for the next four years.

And they’re rolling over for Musk, who got exactly zero votes.

I am old enough to remember people complaining that Harris was an installed candidate. What does that make Musk?

It makes Musk a hell of a lot worse and it makes all of the people complaining about Harris look pretty foolish and hypocritical.

I would take that as a sign that the Ds likely won in terms what ended up versus out.

What did the win? Looks to me like they had their fun, realized that their attacks on Musk and Trump weren’t landing and balked at shutting down the government. They did the same thing with the “laddered” CR earlier this year. They talked a good game and then eventually caved.

Man, I’m just going to let you continue being delusional.

The CR stripped out all of the Democrats nonsense and in exchange Trump didn’t get his debt ceiling increase. Only problem is that the debt ceiling request only came after they had a negotiated CR. So what did eventually pass was significantly better for Republicans.

Child Cancer Research is Democratic nonsense?

I have empathy and respect for cancer research but funding for it doesn’t belong in a bill to prevent a government shutdown. Those types of things should be in their own bill and stand on their own merit.

I can understand the Republican position that emergency funding for our farmers is a national security issue since if they can’t survive and need to sell off their land, it will be purchased by foreign entities and eventually we’ll lose control of our food supply which really is a problem. But even that should really have been in its own bill. I don’t think anyone would be dumb enough to vote to disrupt our nation’s food supply.

except the GOP hasn't and won't do 'regular order" to develop and pass bills, so I guess, screw the kids, right?

Unfortunately there is only so much money. If we give extra money for cancer research, what do you want to cut by that much to pay for it?

If we can "afford" trillions upon trillions giving tax breaks to the wealthiest and to megacorporations, then we can most certainly afford some money for cancer research. And as for not putting it in the CR, why the hell not? Funding cancer research should be a no-brainer. It should be non-controversial. It's only controversial because there are a few too many greedy, selfish sociopaths messing with the levers of power in America.

Cancer research funding passed!!

This was a standalone bill languishing in the Senate since spring. When it got dropped from CR Tim Kaine introduced it in Senate and it passed then just pass House!!

Massie, Chip Roy and 2 other s h ! t heads voted no.

So Dems got most of what they wanted and Trump lost his debt ceiling demand and is looking super beta.

+1 Also adding that this was only languishing in the Senate because Rand Paul was holding it up.

Funny how this question never gets asked when the issue is corporate tax cuts, or farm subsidies, or defense spending.

Looking after farmers is looking after our food supply. We can’t let our farms be sold off to foreign entities. It’s already happening in countries like Australia (e.g. their dairy farms are being sold off to the Chinese to create their baby formula) and it’s a really dangerous path.

Most American farmers are growing cash crops that get exported. So no, it is pandering.

Joel Salatin is going to get them off the commodity corn/soybean poverty cycle and fix the American food supply. F*ck big Agriculture.

When is the Senate voting? 30 minutes to vote and get the bill enrolled and signed by Biden?

He is? He has had huge allies in the Dept of Ag for more than a decade under both dem and gop administrations and nothing has changed.

Why is the cancer research “extra” and the farm billons not?

You want tradeoffs? Fine. Dock $190M from the farm relief bill. No one will notice.

But children suffering from cancer and their families and loved ones will notice the lack of humanity shown to them by this Congress.

It's past Biden's bed time.

Why can't they just have a bill about the budget so frustrating. They also should get rid of the debt ceiling to avoid this drama

Great job, Musk! The 1500 pork monster is gone and now we don’t even have to have a shutdown. A win for the people.
