Mass Deportation: this is going to be expensive

First, this is going to take years to construct, and will line government contractors pockets with the overhead. Second, US citizens will be responsible for housing, food and transportation costs during the time period for adjudication. It seems like this set up is aimed to further privatize the deportation process at an enormous expense to American taxpayers.

Why is this more viable than having immigrants work while awaiting adjudication? Increase tracking capabilities and require employers of immigrants to maintain information on them. It will cost a fraction of the money used to construct and maintain these facilities.

You don't think there is private contracting and a lot of expense in the current regime?

Perhaps they can cut costs by not bringing in so many people that need to be deported.

By having these facilities people thinking of coming and applying for asylum will be less likely to come, thus reducing the overall cost.

Where are all these American young men and women dying to break into construction/manual labor? Also with respect to the comment about 'repurposing' border patrol agents as constructions workers, just...wow. I feel like a greater and greater percentage of posts on this forum read like satire. It's hard to tell what's a real comment and what's said in jest.

MAGA seems to have lost its way. Suspect just too many conflicting positions at this point to justify and defend.

There are plenty of young men willing to do it . They’re just looking for an honest wage.

Women won’t break into manual labor and never have. Even job sites now are filled with illegal alien men, not women. Minus the rare exception most women who come here don’t work and suck out of the system for benefits. My sister deals with this in VA as tons of illegals are in the school systems and the mothers are getting free diapers, food, medial care etc as poor Americans suffer.

So this argument is the democrats saying who’s going to build things just show they want to go back to their Democrat party roots. The party of slavery

I promise, no young white men are going to pic any crops or do landscaping or putting roofs on homes. I bet you even get your kids to clean their rooms, take out the garbage and clean the garbage cans.

That was already being done before Biden let in 20 million more.

The working can get a seasonal green card and apply plus wait in line as they prove themselves.

The others taking more benefits than taxes they pay go home

This is not what Trump promised. He promised all these immigrants were going to be rounded up and deported. I do not care if they are legal or illegal. Trump needs to keep his promises and get these people out of the country. They don’t even speak English in Miami any more. It seems Trump and you are back tracking?

You don’t care if they are legal or illegal??

JD Vance and Stephen Miller have made statement indicating they would deport immigrants regardless of legal ststus including denaturalization.

It's almost like these MAGA posters haven't read or even skimmed Project 2025.
1619 Project...........

The same people complaining that Americans demand too much salary and support offshoring are also championing the immigration, legal and illegal, driving up cost of living for the American workers. They’re simply self centered sociopaths and our system is designed to reward these spreadsheet driven disloyal pieces of sh!t.

Just send it directly to the Trump family. That's where most of the money is going to go.
And your source of this is? or just your bu11$h1t opinion? Now go get ready for Thanksgiving, bake a pie or something.

Lol. Someone seems mad. They forgot the con Trump's first term in 4 short years. Get ready for the Trump con encore!

You saying this just shows how out of touch you are. You probably live in a lily white UMC liberal enclave. I grew up in flyover country and in my family alone, parents/myself/siblings (all white), we have: 1) worked in a sanitation department job, 2) worked as a crop picker (before the industry was taken over by illegals), 3) worked as a pond installer, 4) worked as a short order cook (me and 2 siblings), 5) worked for a landscaping and tree trimming/cutting company, 6) worked construction, including roof installation. We respectively did many of these jobs as teens, but one of my brothers still works in construction and another for a landscaper (in their 20s). The one brother who used to work as a cook is now in the army. The brother who used to work as a pond installer now works in a factory and earns 6 figures with overtime (no college degree).

Americans ARE willing to do these jobs and HAVE been doing them.

The people who want more immigration, invariably are people who don't work for a living. They manage others or have assets that are unthreatened by mass immigration. Anyone who uses their hands or minds to make money, is at risk, and is disgusted with our current immigration.

Ooops:

The two scenarios we examined—deporting 1.3 million or 8.3 million unauthorized immigrant workers—both cause lower US employment and real GDP through 2040 than otherwise. They also push US inflation higher through 2028.

The deportations would shrink the economy largely by reducing the number of potential workers and their demand for goods and services. This is consistent with research by Michael Clemens’ finding that immigrants create jobs for other workers. Removing immigrants reduces jobs for those remaining workers.

The potential US labor force would decline from the baseline by either 0.8 percent or 5.1 percent in 2028 depending on the program. This labor supply shock would cause employment (hours worked) to decline by either 1.1 percent or 6.7 percent, respectively, from baseline in 2028 (figure 4).
….

US real GDP declines from baseline by 1.2 or 7.4 percent by 2028 but has little effect on the economic output or employment of other countries. The negative effect on other countries of a decline in US demand for exports from these countries is offset by the stimulus in other countries from the relocation of capital from the US to these economies.

Given annual baseline GDP growth of 1.9 percent, deporting 8.3 million workers implies that the level, or dollar value, of US GDP in 2028 will be almost unchanged from that in 2024—meaning no US net economic growth occurs over the second Trump term because of this policy alone.

It sure looks like Democrats are pretending to be against open borders. They will probably drop even the minimal things they were pretending to support during the election.

It sure looks like the GOP likes to complain and whine and cry about the border way more then to actually come up with effective solutions.

It was all about a wall and then it wasn't. Now it seems to be all about some boondoggle prison construction project. Who knows how they will actually fix this. We are waiting to see

So the population decreases by 8 million and the GDP stays the same and Americans get jobs.

Same GDP with 8 million fewer immigrants, means a higher per capita GDP.

No you’re reading it wrong. It’s four years of zero GDP growth AT BEST. Just from the expulsion of illegal immigrants alone. That’s not considering effects from tariffs or a take over of the Fed by Trump.

What does four years of zero GDP growth mean? It means a flat stock market for four years. A decline in real wages as inflation rages from worker shortages in key industries and tariffs.

Did you really list a whole bunch of jobs your family did as teens as proof that American adults want these as full time jobs?

I was directly responding to someone who said, and I quote,
“I promise, no young white men are going to pic any crops or do landscaping or putting roofs on homes.”

That is FALSE. Just because you think you’re too good to do those jobs, does not mean that people in the heartland of this country feel the same way.

And just so you know, people like you, with attitudes like yours, are why you lost.

Built some wall, and got Mexico to pay for a wall of soldiers at the border.
You will likely see some prison construction, as well as reopening of closed detention centers, and use of military bases to hold people.
