The state of MCPS is atrocious

I want proof that regular MCPS HS’s wipe the floor with private school kids in math competitions.

Check AMC8, AMC10 or MATHCOUNTS.

That’s silly because most kids are not doing nor have time for math competitions.

Ok? Your point is...???

Now I see 50 DCUM pages on why the place is atrocious and I just want to say to the apologists: do not blame this on pandemic. Likely took the place to another level but hell’s journey began with Weist’s corrupt deal with Pearson.

That certainly didn’t help, but the problems started earlier.

Do you understand what you just admitted? Those students have to come to MCPS to enjoy very advanced, high quality math and strong peers.
LOL

Huh? Kids apply to public school for a lot of reasons.

If privates are so much better, why on earth would you leave for a terrible public?

No one is saying the magnets are terrible.

Yet, here you are on the MCPS forum. Can't get away from MCPS, can you?
You are as deranged as your wife.

No, it’s deranged to defend a corrupt and ineffective school system.

Plenty of people have posted valid concerns and you’re bashing private school parents? Instead of focusing on what the issues are and trying to improve them.

You’re the deranged one.

They themselves say they are private school parents. This is their favorite sport: bashing MCPS on DCUM, so they can feel good about paying for an inferior product.
You're not even in MCPS and yet you're still ranting about MCPS. Get a life and move on.
You're truly deranged. Seek help.

I’m not PP, but you really do need to focus on MCPS’s problems, rather than making a clearly ridiculous claim that top private schools are inferior to MCPS.

I’m not either of the PP but laugh when folks say “focus on MCPS problems” when most on this board are not focused on the problem. You’re complaining on an anonymous forum about what you think is the problem and not looking for the root cause or solutions. Also, most won’t be doing anything to solve said problems just complaining and thinking they will magically resolve on their own.

A good first step would be to acknowledge the problems.

Do you think it’s better to deny that these problems exist?

They still pay taxes.

My kids are in MCPS, but even if they weren’t - as a Montgomery County taxpayer, we all should have a vested interest in a strong public school system.

No one I know denies problems exist. Heck even MCPS acknowledges problems exist. So now that that’s clear let’s move back to my point which is people actively working to resolve the issues. But like normal when you talk to parents about action, then you get crickets or deflection.

Total corruption. Teachers get canned for reporting true data on non inflated grades, behavior, crime etc and admin get promoted for covering up, inflating grades, and showing rosey optics. Good luck finding teachers after you abused and fired the few left in the industry.

So true. The downward spiral only escalated with the 2.0 the plummeted further with the 18 month COVID closure. There’s virtually no recovery plan to fill in gaps after the school system dropped instruction one day a week for one and a half school years.

They will get 80.hrs per weeknout of teachers before they can them. 40 unpaid overtime hours of course. I love how they have to instruct us to fill out our forms incorrectly like we came in at 8a and left at 4 everyday.

Parent bashing and teacher retaliation is how MCPS administrators deal with anyone who dares to speak up about serious problems in the school system. We all are important stake holders yet MCPS wants to silence concerns.

You see the tactics from Principals and at all levels in the Carver Center. This is why MCPS has lost credibility.

Agreed.

How do you fix such a huge, corrupt school system? With zero oversight. It’s very difficult.
