Parents who curse out school staff and admin should suffer repercussions. The government, which funds and runs MCPS, needs to start holding people accountable for this stuff. |
we know, we know, you want to get rid of public schools, and give out vouchers for school's of parents's choice. |
That mother should be charged with child neglect and referred to CPS. As mandatory reporters, isn't that your duty? |
Repercussions? Like taking away the recess they don’t get? What exactly do you think MCPS can do to parents who aren’t breaking a law? |
Neglect? Lol. It’s very hard to get CPS to prosecute actual neglect. Not being reachable describes probably 1/4 of the parents in the school. |
I love MCPS. I feel my kids are getting a much better education than was available to me at my W schools 30 years ago. |
Schools are the same as ever. The difference today are the parents. |
MCPS has been going to hell in a hand basket for the last hundred years. |
I did a sample 90/10 report with all 3 “done” assignments in the 90% category and the others all 50%. It didn’t come out to 60%. How are y’all getting that? |
Churchhill said that democracy is the worst system of government, except for all the others.
Sometimes I think that about MCPS. I’d never go private. Howard and PG and Fairfax and all the rest are the same. Don’t romanticize small town America either. So yeah, it’s terrible but it’s better than the alternative. |
No one likes to pay taxes, but the cost of education and everything else everyone wants is not free by any means. The teachers in MCPS are not to blame and are severely underpaid for what they do and the requirements that must be met to teach in MCPS. The issue is the out of touch school board, the administration and a number of vocal parents that complain about every act of discipline and very poor grade a student earns. Again, teaching staff are working extremely hard and are dedicated people who deserve large pay increases. No one listens to the “front line workers” in any occupation do they? |
Not being reachable while your child is in ER for hours on end and then verbally attacking school staff and becoming "enraged," as you said, when informed sounds like neglect to me. You didn't elaborate why she was enraged but best believe documentation, at a minimum should be produced for her behavior. |
Documentation on the parent's behavior would be a start. And then don't be afraid to call the police. Parents who come shouting and hollering can and do get charged for disorderly conduct and aggressive encounters with school staff. It just happened in Florida over a father who got aggressive with a bus aide: https://nypost.com/2023/05/09/florida-dad-att...rom-riding-from-bus/ Document, call the police, hold the aggressive, violent parents accountable. |

Yeah. Parents who come in hollering and screaming at staff can and should be charged with disorderly conduct. So, yes, there is a way to hold these bad actors accountable. |
