+1. Well said. |
She wrote a vague op ed that did not name him. He has pursued multiple legal avenues designed to humiliate her, get her fired, and drag her through the mud while dragging himself along with her. I agree that it seems like it was mutually abusive. But here we are, 5 years later, and only one of them is still beating this into the earth. As someone else said, he WAS Johnny freaking Depp. He could have cleaned up, set up his big Diane Sawyer sit down and talked about how he was abused and ruined by a crazy woman blah blah blah. She probably would be blackballed if he was functional because he was a very powerful hollywood player when he was making studios money instead of costing them money. He would say he was back on the wagon ready to work, apologize for his behavior publicly for the last few years and talk about the dangers of toxic relationships etc and he would have been paid money, rehabbed his rep, and we'd all be talking about the reboot of the pirates franchise. Instead he has driven himself into backruptcy trying to do this in court via cases that are doomed to fail because her actions do not meet the LEGAL standards for these crimes. Defamation is WAY easier to prove in the UK and he lost. Why? Because he hates her and wants to look her in the face while he humiliates her. It is the ONLY logical reason. This is actively hurting him as well. So it blows my mind that people are claiming the bolded, as this is EXACTLY what he is doing now and has been doing at this point for years. |
+1 to all this. His behavior in these cases is actually textbook. It's super common for abusers to use the legal system to keep their victims under their control and harass them further. Again, if you haven't read the op Ed he's suing on, go read it. You'll see why this case is a complete joke. |
You know its weird in no argument has anyone been able to escalate me to screaming and breaking stuff. My husband either. |
People might not remember but women online said stuff like "I'd let Chris Brown hit me". Celebrity worship does some weird stuff. |

Well, she is definitely not coming off great today, but even given all of this, this case is supposed to be about the op-ed, which, as noted above, is fairly benign. I do not believe she is some innocent victim. I think she is probably a horrible human being. But I just don’t see how this is strong enough to be defamation but again I’m not an expert.
I did see an article where legal “experts” lauded his direct testimony ands even how he held up under cross. They were critical of her attorneys. But even with all that, in the end, they were forced to admit he would probably not win the case. So I don’t know what Depp actually expects out of this. It feels like he wants to re-do the “wife-beater” case he lost in the UK. To be honest if this was about the phrase “wife-beater” I think he would have a good shot to win at this point. But it’s not. |
Also agree with this, especially the comment PP above is agreeing with. Her op ed was very vague and it's clear that JD's behavior on set and inability at times to do the job he had been hired for had been problematic for some time. Heard wrote an article about how the consequences for male and females involved in domestic violence incidents are different and look at the result - she has been put on trial for it, literally, for writing an op ed piece. Depp lost in the UK where the legal standard is easier and he STILL brought this case in the US. As PP says above, the reason is clear:

Hi - I'm PP who wrote what you quoted ("it also seems like after they fell apart, she tried to take him down rather than realizing that they were both wrong and ending it quietly.") Maybe you didn't read my whole post, but I was commenting as a casual observer and just came across it on TikTok live today. I'm not trying to "claim" anything -- I'm just telling you my sense of this dispute and why I am more sympathetic to Johnny Depp even though I'm not a "red piller." So feel free to calm down and un-blow your mind, thanks. |
Exactly. He lost on the UK and the allegations were very specific. If the jury believe at least he threw a phone at her, she wins. Who cares how many times or if she abused him too. And no way they find 50m in damages even if he wins the other issues. |
I'm the pp who responded to you directly about how your impression that "she tried to take him down rather than realizing that they were both wrong and ending it quietly. That seems pretty shitty and makes me more sympathetic to his side" is insane to me considering he has been doing exactly that now for far longer than she has. I don't think you were trying to claim anything, but I think your defensiveness and perspective shows that the red pillers on reddit have been doing their job. In a story where a couple had a dramatic violent end, she wrote a vague op ed and he took on years of costly, humiliating and pointless lawsuits who's only logical goal is her embarrassment and ruin and yet your impression as someone not paying much attention is that she is the one who has been trying to take him down instead of admitting her faults. Consider yourself successfully spun. |

What in the world are you talking about with these "red pillers on reddit"? Who said anything about reddit? You sound almost as unhinged as Amber apparently is. |
A bit of a Pyrrhic victory though. These trials have confirmed he cheated on Vanessa with this nut and he’s on a seemingly un-hireable amount of drugs. |
A response like this tells me you know exactly what I'm talking about Steve in your mom's basement

Are either of you on drugs? |
