Didn’t residents in those wards get priority access to the vaccines before those in some other wards? Doesn’t seem like unequal access is the problem here.

I'd love to see the cell phones of residents in Ward 8. I am betting their social media is bombarded with misinformation about the vaccine.

And yes, you can target these messages down to their neighborhoods.

I’m sure most white Trump voters social media is similarly bombarded with misinformation about the vaccine. Do they also get a pass?

Here's a newsflash - all social media is bombarded with targeted information - which is considered misinformation by the other side. Neither side has a monopoly on truth and facts, and the idea that "my" side is correct and "the other" side is stupid and misinformed is the main problem here.

No it is not hard to find FACTUAL information. Trumpers are stupid at this point in time. Trumpets are literally getting themselves and others sick and they know it. Who the H wakes up in the morning and decides today is the day to get a family member sick because of their "freedoms". Honestly, it's absurd. Between our failing Democracy becasue Trumpets want dictators and covid we are hosed.

There is truth and there is misinformation. So, yes, one side does have a near monopoly on the facts. Spoiler alert, the Covid spread in red states is not coming from immigrants charging over the border. It's caused by people failing to get the jab.

If you're still unvaccinated at this point, you're probably poor and uneducated.

There's a clear class divide between the vaccinated and unvaccinated.

It's hard to reason with people who aren't vaccinated because their reasons for not getting it are nonsensical.

This is on Bowser though. She's the leader and it falls on her to convince the idiots of Washington D.C. that they need to get vaccinated.

The unvaccinated people in DC aren’t “Trumpers.”

The the PP above asking about menstruation. When this rumor first arose, I asked a friend who is one of the country’s top researchers in endocrinology. She did not think there was any way it would have any long term effects on fertility. She said it is very common for all types of physical stressors to have a short term effect on mentrual cycles—this includes a stress on the immune system such as you might get with vaccination or that you might have with an actual illness. She is vaccinated, her daughters are vaccinated, her nieces are all vaccinated and her granddaughter will be vaccinated when you children are able to do so. I think the reason the medical professionals haven’t address d this particular rumor is that, for the knowledgeable, it’s a pretty ludicrous idea that just because something disrupts your menstrual cycles for a bit that it would impact your long term fertility.

No, sorry... but the "truth" that has been disseminated by government scientists has been shown to be in error many times during the pandemic. Fauci has admitted to using "the noble lie" to try to influence behavior. The news media and social media have consistently suppressed any questions or dissent, even from highly credentialed scientists, etc. Treatment alternatives are actively suppressed in a way that I have never seen. Side effects from Pfizer and Moderna are denied while J&J is pilloried (tick off someone at the FDA?), etc.

If you know anything about science and what it is, you will realize that much of what we are seeing is not science. It is advocacy, with a political bent. Science is humble. Science openly shares data. Science is skeptical. Science does not fear dissenting opinions. The irony is that in an effort to achieve a public good (control of the virus) through this all-out assault on scientific norms, the government and media have only blown their credibility and now will have little influence on a big chunk of the population. Speaking in more measured tones about risks and benefits, and sharing actual data would have created more trust.

Finally, when will they figure out that having Fauci speak everyday is highly unlikely to change any of the reluctant minds? It is clear that he has never darkened the door of a public health school, where we actually talk about how to educate folks on health issues. - MPH

The suppression of vaccine concerns is…concerning.

Heh. You sound nuts, and also not very smart. You should talk to your doctor. Or, really, any doctor in America. They will tell you to go get your dumb ass vaccinated because the vaccines were have an extremely good vaccines.

I work in HR and see the exemption requests from the vaccine mandates. There’s a lot of people with extreme religious beliefs that relate to vaccines generally or this vaccine more specifically because of the testing on the fetal cell line. (I’m always curious if these people also reject medicine tested on those lines.). There seems to be a large overlap with those people believing conspiracy theories about the vaccine because they also often cite inaccurate info about the supposed risks that they got off questionable internet sites.

There are also people with medical requests that are fairly vague but similar to the lady above who said autoimmune, heart or clotting issues, etc. I sort of wonder about the doctors signing off on these requests but they are out there.

So why are many black folks not getting vaccinated? Religion? They are clearly not Trumpers/Fox-files. They distrust the government and the media both run for centuries by “whitey”. Add in the Tuskegee experiment and even more distrust grows. How will you get thru to them? Also, the illegals here without IDs how do they sign up and get their certificate card? Discuss ...

I'm not vaccinated. 50 yo white female Democrat. I have medical issues, including severe allergies and an as yet undiagnosed auto immune condition, with risk of blood clots. I am doing the right thing for me, which is holding off on vaccination until I have a handle on my health.

No you are doing a dumb thing, and will probably die of COVID.

Statistically, my chances of dying from covid are .001%, if I contract it.

Not knowing what your conversations have been with your doctors, I don't claim to know whether you are making the right decision or not by choosing to hold off on vaccinating. But your understanding of the statistical probability of dying from Covid is not correct because the risk is not spread evenly across all people. You are older, you have medical conditions, and if you are overweight or obese your odds go up significantly. Your chances of survival also depend on your access to high quality medical care. Your risks are not the same as a healthy, fit, 18 year old.

They likely account for a share of the unvaccinated in this area. I know that is hard for some to wrap their heads around because it doesn’t fit with a simple minded political narrative. It’s a huge issue being overlooked by the left sadly. Another sign my party has become elite and out of touch.

Factually incorrect statement, at least in Montgomery County, where the vaccination rate for Latino residents is higher than the vaccination rate for white residents.

Prince George's County is predominantly black/AA and 70% of adults are vaccinated.

Where do you get that number? According to the State website, 54.3% of PG County population is fully vaccinated. That's still a hefty unvaccinated population. In Howard Co, 72.7% of the population is fully vaccinated.

WTOP. Four weeks ago. It should be higher now. https://wtop.com/prince-georges-county/2021/07/prince-georges-hits-70-vaccination-rate-for-adults/

Wow. This WTOP story is really wrong. They should print a retraction or correction. As of this week the numbers are 62% first dose and 54.5% fully vaccinated

Are you comparing percentage of adults 18 and up vaccinated to percentage of population vaccinated? Because those numbers are going to be different.
