What is a simple-minded political narrative is claiming that the "Left" is out of touch, and waiving your hands by saying blacks-and-Hispanics-mumble-mumble. It's the absolute favorite current Talking Point to criticize people supporting vaccination -- and that's regardless of how you chose to identify yourself on this anonymous site.

There are real issues to deal with here. History, inequity, hierarchies, etc. But the truth is that most people who are unvaccinated are white, and there's no reason to think that is different for the DMV. People who identify as black and Hispanic are disproportionately seeking out the vaccine for the last 2 weeks, so that is still changing -- and not in the direction you suggest.

You need to take a course in statistics. Most people in this country are white, so most of the unvaccinated are white. According to CDC data, blacks and Hispanics lag behind whites in vaccination

I think the whole narrative of dump Trumpers won't get vaccines (while having truth to it) completely overlooks some of the equity issues around the vaccine.

And the inequities should be addressed, and -- as per your link right there -- "Between March 1 and August 2, the share of vaccinations going to Hispanic people increased in all states reporting data for both periods and increased for Black people in most reporting states. In a few cases, these increases were large. For example, the share of vaccinations going to Black people increased from 26% to 43% in DC and from 25% to 38% in Mississippi."

One way or another, that disparity in percentages of vaccination by race is getting addressed. That Talking Point won't be around much longer. I do hear tell that attributing the vaccine to aborted fetuses is getting to be a popular pivot, though, so, hat tip to the interested.

Right now, supposedly "healthy" adults in their 20s and 30s who are unvaccinated and without serious underlying conditions are getting seriously ill --sick enough to be in hospitals and on ventilators--in places like Florida. We're seeing, just like last year, reputable reports about hospitals getting overwhelmed and health care workers right back where they were in terms of being slammed with covid patients. Or do you just choose not to read the many articles about people saying from hospital beds, or their deathbeds, how they wish they had gotten the vaccine? Plenty out there, if you look at any news source other than Fox.

Bet you don't "believe in" long covid either. Survive the infection but live with potentially lifelong effects. But I'm sure your immune system will protect you. Will it protect other people to whom you transmit Delta when you don't have symptoms but are infected?

I am vaccinated and I don't concern myself with other people's medical decisions. I also don't watch the news. I only look at the case numbers for my area. The past 17 months have been hell. I am trying to enjoy my life.

Factually incorrect statement, at least in Montgomery County, where the vaccination rate for Latino residents is higher than the vaccination rate for white residents.

I am vaxxed and white, so no shade. Why is race even a factor? Vax is free and a available to everyone. Do you believe that Hispanics and blacks are predominately unable to make a decision about their own risk assessment? Are some anti vax, trump humpers, enjoying the chaos? Of course, right along with whites. Their choice to vax or not is very likely based on the same barometer measured by whites, even the crazy ones. They read just like we do. They make their decision based on what is best for their families. I'm not anti vax, but I am pro democracy. With new regulations and mandates forthcoming, they'll make the decision that's best for them with the least fallout.

Honestly, I can empathize with both sides of the vax debate. I also made a personal decision on March 13 2020 to mask myself and family. Nothing CDC, Fauci or anyone said swayed my mask mandate for my family. I don't put others at risk, and I don't care if people think I'm unvaxxed while wearing a mask. I wash my hands often, remind my vaxxed family to do the same, keep sanitizer handy, and hope for the best. I refuse to shake a fist at the sky to those people with the freedom to choose what they put into their bodies. I can only hope that they mask, stay away from large groups, and don't die from covid.

So you're 50 years old and have a ton of health issues, but you're approximately 1000 times less likely to die of this brand new disease than the average person is because reasons. Also it's a brand new vaccine, after all, unlike COVID-19, which was so named because it came into existence in the year 1619.

Also it's a brand new vaccine, after all, unlike COVID-19, which was so named because it came into existence in the year 1619.

I understand you are anxious about covid and berating internet strangers gives you some sense of control, but I have to do what I feel is best for me. NP, but by ignoring race, you have come up with a completely unusable premise. You assume Black and Latino people are *choosing not to get vaccinated* vs, in more cases than for whites, facing structural barriers. Some also are genuinely choosing not to, and some for the same reasons as whites, but statistics show that white unvaccinated people are much more likely to have completely closed themselves off to the idea, believe COVID is a hoax and so on. *more likely*, not guaranteed.

And yeah, it's political and racial. Being a white evangelical is the number one predictor of being an unvaccinated adult. And being a white Republican, generally, is just behind that. It has been politicized. We (everyone) are not all people making rational scientific risk assessments.

Hey, I genuinely hope you don't die, Internet stranger! But none of this has anything to do with my "anxiety." Unfortunately if you don't introduce a new vaccine into your body, a new disease is very likely to walk right on in without being invited. There is no neutral choice here, though since you sound like you won't be getting vaccinated, I can only very genuinely hope you luck out and don't contract COVID. I say this only because that was all I could hope for when my family did the same. Unfortunately they did gamble and they lost-- two were hospitalized and one died.

At some point hospitals should turn away the unvaccinated. You want to take your chances, that’s fine with me, you can do so at home without a ventilator. We shouldn’t have to pay for medical care due to your ignorance.
