Uncomfortable in a bikini

Anonymous
OP, I come from a similar culture and can totally relate. I remember wearing a tankini at a beach as a young 20 something and feeling self conscious. I feel weird wearing bikinis (bra and panties) because to me they feel like underwear just in a different material. Anyway 15 years later now when I'm at a beach vacation with just my immediate family and random people I won't ever see again I am comfortable wearing a bikini top and boy shorts or a tankini /one piece with bikini cut bottoms. At the beach or local pool with extended family or friends, I wear rash guard top (good for sun protection) and modest bottoms. You will get there OP.

OP, I get you, but:

men are going to check out women. They are visual creatures and it doesn't necessarily mean anything. Heck, I look at other women at the pool/beach who are beautiful who have nice bodies. It certainly doesn't mean I want them or anything.

I have never felt comfortable in a bikini. I wore them as a young girl/teen, but only because my mother bought them for me and she was a bikini queen. I am not religious or from a culture that frowns on showing your body, I just don't feel comfortable in them. I feel just better covered up.

We are members of a community pool also and spend a lot of time there now (FINALLY!! after COVID restrictions were lifted). We know a lot of parents there and some of the moms wear bikinis and have great bodies. I'm sure my DH check them out, I don't care, it means nothing.

I personally wear a tankini bathing top with Capri swim leggings and also a long sleeve rash guard over top. My little boys and DH also wear long sleeve rash guards for sun protection (we are very fair skinned and skin cancer runs in the family on my side). I also like wearing the leggings and rash guard because I feel better in them running around after my kids and not having to pick wedgies out of my butt cheeks or worry about nip-slips, etc. I also like that what I wear to the pool, I can leave for the pool in them and stop by a store on the way back if need be, without changing clothes. If it get's later and there is more shade, I will sometimes take my rash guard off.

I also absolute HATE one piece bathing suits. It is an absolute nightmare to try to peel a wet one down to use the restroom, especially if it is one of those one piece suits that have the "tummy control" thing. OMG, never again will I buy or wear one of those evil things.

That being said, I fully support bikini wearers! Anyone should wear what they are comfortable in.

These are the capri leggings that I have, and I love them so much, they are so comfortable and they dry quickly. They sit a bit higher on the waist than shown in the pic though: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LFBMFZF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My tankini tops and rash guards I have are mostly from LL Bean or Amazon.

I’m totally American. Forty five. I don’t feel comfortable in a bikini.

I order suits from llbean. I wear a tanking top and a bottom with a short skirt. And then I wear a cover up.

Bikinis are basically your underwear. It’s fine if you don’t want to hang out around other people in a bikini.

If your husband is obviously checking women out that is gross. He needs to stop ogling. Most American women would not be cool with a man obviously checking out women in bikinis.

OP, have you seen the swim leggings and capris? A pair of those and a rashguard is modest and practical. There are also modern modest swim dresses available.

I wear a rashguard and board shorts to swim in. I live in Fl and absolutely need the sun protection! Lots of people wear stuff like that here, probably more than bikinis (in family areas).

There is only one iron clad way to confirm if a man is checking out a woman in a bikini. Check their pulse. If they have one they are checking out women in a bikini. Every single time.

Sports Illustrated, Playboy, Maxim and almost every single magazine that is directed at men prominently features women in bikinis. Why? Because men cannot look away from a picture or a real life women that is practically naked except for 6 square inches of her body.

IT.IS.JUST.NOT.POSSIBLE.FOR.MEN

90% of the time women at a strip club are in a bikini. Usually the only time a man gets to see a woman in close to that level of clothing is just before sex. So it is highly erotic for men to see a woman in a bikini.

It is just nature.

I am surprised at many of the comments from women that seem to indicate that men do not check out women in a bikini. Poster on 06/29/2021 19:35 nailed it.

Bikini is one of the most erotic pieces of clothing. It is basically lingerie that decades of media/culture convinced women that it is a nice comfortable beach and pool wear. Thank God for that.

I wear a bikini because I have a small chest and a bigger butt, but have a good midsection. If I wear a one-piece, I look awful. At some point if my abs go, I'll switch to a tankini. I'm not wearing a bikini to try to attract anyone's husband or boyfriend (or even any single guys) but because that is the type of suit most comfortable for me.

What I am not comfortable in is walking around all day with just the suit. I'll put on shorts once I'm out of the pool. I see women who are walking around in just the suit, and I see women in much skimpier suits that me. That's their comfort level.

Wear whatever suit and cover-up combo is comfortable for you. And maybe ask yourself if your husband is *really* checking out these women or if he's just talking to people who happen to be wearing bikinis.

I’m 35 and I still look good in a bikini but I will only wear one when we are on vacation and I don’t know anyone. On certain islands I’m happy to go topless if our children are not with us. When I am at our local pool and know just about everyone I feel strangely self conscious especially after my husband joked that every guy was mentally undressing me. I definitely prefer a tankini to a one piece.

My bikini basically looks like a comfy wide strapped sports bra and full coverage granny panties. I can’t imagine who would find it erotic unless they had a bellybutton fetish.

I am a plus size bikini wearer. I am tall, so only tall 1 pieces fit me and they aren't always cute. I hate having to use the bathroom in a one piece. Tankini tops can ride up, or float out in the water. It is impossible to swim in a skirt. Leggings are too hot

+1. Women who swear their men don’t check out other women are just with guys who have mastered the art of rubbernecking. Good sunglasses help a lot in this regard.

Every porn website has a category called "Bikini".

Ladies: don’t buy frumpy swimwear from LLBean. You don’t have to cut off your hair at 35 and start wearing this gender neutral swimwear. It’s ok to wear bikinis and live a little. Everyone at the pool will survive, too.
