What's wrong with Loudoun Soccer

Loudoun Soccer is fine.

Hmmm. I don't think this is a reasonable summary. Loudoun soccer has more than its fair share of problems.

There is one prolific poster on this forum who has an agenda against Loudoun due to publicity last spring of them not fully refunding the canceled season due to Covid.

There is one prolific poster who remains aggrieved about that specific issue, but there are also many other posters who have asserted a variety of unethical, non-player-friendly, nepotistic, racist and cronyist behaviors. To suggest that the only complainst about Loudoun are from one poster is not a fair summary.

Most clubs did exactly what Loudoun did, but since it is the largest club in the county Loudoun got called out.

That's not true either. Many clubs refunded or didn't collect rec fees, and made partial refunds of travel fees.

The poster (hater) is either an FCV staff/coach trying to get parents to spend their money at FCV vs. Loudoun or a parent whose kid was cut by Loudoun and they just can’t get over it.

I've made some comments about Loudoun myself based on my direct observations and stories I have heard from (many) other parents who had kids there. I am not from FCV, and none of the parents whose experiences I have relied on had their kids cut by Loudoun - in fact it was often the experience they had attemtping to leave when Loudoun wanted to keep the kid that was so disturbing.

My kid played with FCV, Total Futbol, ODFC, and Loudoun. Loudoun is easily the best administered program around. Logistics are never an issue.

That may well be true - I haven't played at Loudoun so cannot comment on the administration.

As far as coaching, it’s a mixed bag but so are all those other clubs.

I would agree with this. I don't think Loudoun have any excellent coaches, but it's not a total disaster.

I think all teams are having a harder time. Lots of kids have lost interest in sports/changed sports/hobbies during the pandemic.

Not just those teams. I just got an e-mail inviting to a practice to tryout for 2010 team as a goalie.

Read the post. I think the points I made and the sources of my information were clear enough.

There is a significant gap between Loudoun's ECNL and Red teams for 08 Boys. The ECNL team is strong. I'm guessing your son is at Herndon. According to YSR it would be a close match, but running up the score against weaker opponents is a little different than playing top teams.

What would YSR predict in a Loudoun SYC match at 08?

The SYC team has a lot of mixed results. A lot of their CCL play has brought down their score. I'm guessing their manassas guest players don't play those games. YSR doesn't know if manassas players are there or not.
Loudoun and SYC played twice this year. Loudoun won the first matchup 3 to 1 and lost the second 4 to 0. YSR says Loudoun should win by 2. So it matched the first result, but was way off the second. The tournament of the second matchup, Loudoun tied Arlington ECNL 0 to 0, whereas three weeks prior, Loudoun beat Arlington ECNL 5 to 1. So obviously 12 and 13 year olds aren't the most consistent.

Loudoun to win by just over 2 goals.

Yep. And Loudoun lost by 4 in a spring tournament final. Sort of my point.

Loudoun is much much better than Arlington 08s. Anybody who has seen them play knows it. Anybody can park the bus in a tourney. That’s what I would have done if I were Arlington in that situation.

Right, it kind of shows the tournament that Loudoun lost 4 to 0 to SYC wasn't their best. So the previous poster thinks that if a team doesn't play well one week it shows that YSR isn't good, doesn't know what they are talking about.

YSR is a decent resource, but it isn't an exact science. The specific team "rankings" are best used for relative strengths of teams versus predicting specific game results. Any given game between two teams has too many variables at these ages to accurately predict outcomes.

That was the game somebody linked to on this site. I watched a bit of the game and actually thought Arlington were actually playing better soccer than Loudoun - but the Loudoun kids were a lot bigger/faster/stronger. I suspect Arlington's record will be significantly better next year if they don't lose players.

Or any age to be honest. YSR is pretty good in that it probably does rank teams fairly accurately. But of course even a perfect ranking system cannot predict every result accurately, because (a) teams match up differently, and (b) sometimes worse teams beat better ones, and (c) teams don't play at the same level each week. And (c) is especially true for younger teams.
