HOS Dressed as Pharaoh for Super Hero Promo video during the month of Passover... wtf?!

It’s not necessarily anti-Semitic but it definitely is pretty close. Either way, not a great look for new families considering the school.

Honestly, I think you are waaaaaay overthin' it . most people don't think of slavery of the people of Israel when they see someone in a Pharaoh get up.

They think of the 80's pop song " king tut , funky tut " or possibly ancient cultures now long defunct

It may even be that the HOS enjoys any excuse to put on what is basically a Drag Queen outfit- complete with heavy black eye liner

All are for more common connections to make than linking something to Passover with some jab that NO ONE gets....

Congressional parent here... that teacher everyone is taking down is actually the most liberal-minded, social justice evangelical, anti-racist and incredible teacher at the school. You can’t get through a conversation with her without hearing about oppression and our role in fighting it. You’re going after the wrong person and all from a social media post that you don’t have context for. Also, we do sign a waiver re photos.

+1. Also, in actual fact, the Jews were never slaves in Egypt period. It’s a story. Jewish and Israeli historians and archeologists are in general agreement on this. You might even say the story is anti-Egyptian. Basically everyone calm down and worry about the plenty of real problems in the world.

Yes, you probably are.

Said the non-jew who is impervious to the minimization of the other.

It was a cute video. I don't see the big deal.

Hand raised.

We just finished the holiday of Purim. Children dress as the good guys and the bad guys. No one of sane mind thinks that this principal is trying to enslave Jews. This is just so moronic and takes away from the real fight agains antisemitism, which is prevalent throughout academia, media, politics and entertainment every day.

Not religious but really insensitive but I doubt it was done on purpose and if he has no exposure to Judaism he wouldn't know. I think its a lot of drama over nothing but to vilify him is silly.

Doesn't matter. Being sensitive to all members of the community shouldn't be that hard. Apparently, by the comments on this thread, it seems to be for both the leadership and many of the families.

Red flag.

Someone needs to tell her she's going overboard and needs to find a balance.

I think the entire thing is bizarre and I wouldn't want my kid in that environment but reality is that many people feel things cannot be racist if its against whites, Asians or Jews or other specific groups. They should remove it and apologize but they probably had no way of know it was offensive.

Dressing as a pharoh is just weird, unless you are trying to be king tut/steve martin or something.

That clearly isn't what the HoS was going for.

I AM part of the Jewish community as are others on this thread who think that this is stupid. Stop telling us what should offend us. It doesn’t.

Doesn't seem that way based on numerous other responses.

Ridiculous. Pharaohs are not automatically thought of in regards to Jewish people. When I think of a pharaoh I do not think of the enslavement of Jewish people. Please stop. This is silly.

It lasts for 7 or 8 days (not worth getting into the differences), same as it always has.

It occurs during a month -- as does any other holiday -- and that is presumably what OP meant, I guess suggesting that this was worse because it happened near the holiday.
