HOS Dressed as Pharaoh for Super Hero Promo video during the month of Passover... wtf?!

Looks like that social studies teacher is still hard at work tweeting out about her students. Hoping her "trace your immigration story" included giving ample space to process the role of slavery and forced migration in that, as well as cross-cultural and social justice issues. I wonder why people are willing to handover money for lessons that have been outdated in the pedagogy for years.

I will add to others who said that the lack of a public reply makes it very difficult for a prospective parent to see if they even cared. There is no need to shove people under the bus, but the lack of ownership and transparency from the school makes this much more of a “thing” than it needed to be.

Call Admissions and ask. Ask for a parent reference. I wouldn’t trust this Board — you never know why someone trolls a school on this Board. They often don’t have any connection with the school. Good luck!

Point well taken--and it helps me look at it a little differently, as the absurdist endpoint in identity politics. Where EVERYONE has a different reason to be offended over the exact same thing. I'm loving it.

Identity politics will be the downfall of America.

China must be LIAO.

I didn’t read through the entire thread, but I do believe our society is becoming hyper sensitive and we are now just policing each other. Instead of whining about it here, send an email to the school voicing your concern and actually DO something about it. For what it’s worth, my husband is brown and feels the same way.

No ones bothered by it.

Hmmm guess you’re cool with white southern girls dressing up as slave owners in antebellum dresses? That part is cool? Awesome.

Anonymous wrote:This landed with mixed feelings inside the school. Very similar to this board. Many parents were outraged, but the school made it seem like the best way to handle this was to stem the tide of damage to reputation. We had planned on leaving after another year anyways back to public school, so this has all been quite an education in the power of the HOS and Board to shut down any transparency and only elevate positive, supported voices.

I appreciate the transparency. It’s encouraging to hear that many parents were outraged, disappointing to hear the school’s reputation. I’m not so sure they did stem the tide.

If the Board is trying to hid behind positive voices, they must not have read this thread. Yikes.

They couldn’t post a 2 sentence mea culpa on Twitter and you think they’ll offer transparency or accountability over the phone?

There is a troll writing both of these posts.

Huh? I wrote the post that I appreciate the transparency. 10000000000000% did not write the one I replied to. I’m just dumbfounded by the school’s reply, or lack thereof. A 23 page thread could have been minimized by a really simple and straightforward “we get it, we made some goofy decisions, but that’s not who we are as a community.”

Looks like teacher got fired as did the guy in charge of gala. Interesting.

but that would require them to say that they had made a "goofy decision" and implies that the action was not ok (b/c it's not who they are as a community) and they, like many of the people who wrote in this thread, may not find it problematic, or may in fact find the "telling a black man he can't wear a costume from africa" even more problematic than the original action.

Not sure the gala part felt lose-your-job-worthy.

The civil war bit crossed a line IMO. If not for the horrible dress up thing, for posting kids all over her social media.

Anyone at the school know if this is true? If they took action, why not publicly acknowledge as has been suggested by others? We took Congressional off our short list (rising K, starting Fall 2022) in part because of how we viewed the administration’s lack of response to these situations.

I like trace your immigration stories. My child is phenotypically different from genotypic. The "immigration/origin story" projects have been a moment when he realizes that even though he doesn't "look like it", he has really far flung roots including enslaved ancestors. It's opened some interesting conversations and awareness.
