Ridiculous. Pharaohs are not automatically thought of in regards to Jewish people. When I think of a pharaoh I do not think of the enslavement of Jewish people. Please stop. This is silly.

And how do you think Jews think of it? Are you also cool with Caucasians saying that, based on their experiences, comments towards Blacks aren't racist when many Blacks disagree?

I’m not going to watch the video, but how do we know the HOS is dressed as the Pharaoh from the Exodus story and not a generic pharaoh from ancient Egypt?

That’s really not the point. I don’t think anyone is accusing him of deliberate malice. His choice of costume reflected a lack of awareness and sensitivity. You would expect better from a head of school in a major metropolitan area.

Also I would not want my kids photos being used on a teachers personal Twitter feed that is open to the world to see.

I’d love to hear from Congressional parents. The pharaoh was awkward, and not sure I under its place in a video about superheroes, but whatever.

More concerning seems to be what kids are learning in your classrooms. Is the school community ok with these approaches?

(And on the photos Q, don’t schools need a waiver before posting photos of kids?)

And these days (or anytime), I would not want my child dressed in antebellum costume memorialized on social media forever...

+1 that was not well thought out at all especially with racial issues.

It probably was a generic pharaoh but the entire thing was strange when it mixed pharaoh's with superheroes.

Not too bright.

This is absolutely mind boggling! Here are a bunch of non Jews telling us that this is offensive and insensitive and tone deaf while most Jewish posters say that it’s nothing of the sort. What the hell is going on here? We have real antisemitism to deal with. Synagogues being defaced. Males who cannot wear a kippah in certain areas out of fear of being attacked. This is NOT antisemitic.

I’m not a Jew but yes?

As a Jew and a Congressional parent, I can only say: Lighten up, Francis.

Hand raised.

We just finished the holiday of Purim. Children dress as the good guys and the bad guys. No one of sane mind thinks that this principal is trying to enslave Jews. This is just so moronic and takes away from the real fight agains antisemitism, which is prevalent throughout academia, media, politics and entertainment every day.

Not religious but really insensitive but I doubt it was done on purpose and if he has no exposure to Judaism he wouldn't know. I think its a lot of drama over nothing but to vilify him is silly.

Hand raised. Not insensitive.

The “shut up, Jews” tone in many responses here is worse than the event under discussion.

What I see are Jewish posters like myself telling non Jewish posters to shut up.

People have lost their minds. Let’s focus on real issues. There are enough instances in this world that we don’t have to guess at intent- racial or anti semantic . Let’s focus there.
