What’s up with parents not wearing masks at the playground?

You are reading way too much into this. Not everyone is out to get you. Most people are just living their lives. If they are outside and can maintain a distance of 6 feet, what rule are they breaking? Some people just love telling others what to do.

A shot of vaccine with mRNA will create proteins in your body to help your body prepare for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It is not a forcefield against it. When you are fully vaccinated you CAN still contract the virus, get the disease and spread it. You should get the vaccine but it does not make you bullet proof. This is not an FDA approved vaccine. It is an emergency use vaccine. The efficacy is still unknown and will be for some time.

Please stop your anti-vaccine propaganda. It’s disturbing and dangerous.

Reading is fundamental. I said you should get it. I am pro vaccine. I work in this science. Just a friendly reminder a vaccine doesn't make you invincible.

Your inability to comprehend is disturbing and dangerous.

Your messaging is 100% anti-vaccine. I hate people like you who hide behind “science” and claim your supportive of the vaccine but then caution that it’s not FDA approved and doesn’t really work. This is exactly what anti-vaxxers want.

These is a list of every statement I made. Please expound on the inaccuracies of each.

Let me know... thanks

https://www.fda.gov/media/144638/download#:~:text=The%20FDA%20has%20authorized%20the,Authorization%20(EUA).

From that atricle:

There is no U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved vaccine to prevent COVID-19.

The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine may not protect everyone.

If you can’t understand how implying that one of the most effective vaccines ever developed doesn’t work is dangerous, I can’t help you.

I hope you are also going around warning people that you kid *can* still get the mumps *and* spread it, because the MMR vaccine is only 88% effective against the mumps.

Can you clarify where I said or implied anything was dangerous?

Now who has reading comprehension problems.

But, I do think spreading the *lie* that these vaccines are not FDA approved is dangerous. They are approved, under an EUA.

Can you answer my question or can't you?

FWIW, both myself and my spouse are vaccinated. As are my parents and my in-laws.

If the FDA says the vaccine is not approved and then I say 'The FDA said the vaccine is not approved' I'm spreading a *lie*? You're a nut job. This is an emergency use vaccine, right. I think I said that in my first post.

You define the word triggered. Go take some Xanax.

Agree. It is hugely egotistical to think people aren’t wearing masks outdoors to torment you. Are you 13? No one thinks about you and your preferences at all. No one is looking at you and nobody is thinking about you.

I am more disturbed by the people I see walking alone at 7 am wearing a mask in an empty street. Covid has exposed a level of science-denial and utter lack of ability to evaluate risk borders on delusion.

They are staying 6' (think fingertip to fingertip) from others? They are already vaccinated? They are at vanishingly low risk of serious illness based on their age and health history?

This. Totally pointless to wear mask once vaccinated or outdoors away from others. Being extreme and unscientific just creates backlash.

Actually there is no data on the variants with regard to masking and vaccines yet. So your stance is quite unscientific as well. Contact tracing shows that the more transmissible strains are infecting people within a matter of a few (not fifteen) minutes indoors with masks. If you are outside in cold weather, aerosol lingers for longer than in warm weather. Would need to see data first to draw conclusions about best practices. And pretty much everyone agrees there will be boosters for the variants at some point this year.

Honestly, I think it’s very rude to be using a public space — outside or inside — without masks. That whole attitude is what has drawn this out. There was a new study that the US could have avoided 40% of its deaths if they had encouraged masks instead of politicizing this and spreading conspiracy theories. Is that scientific enough for you?

I avoid playgrounds with parents who don’t mask, and I do notice who is out there with one and without one. It’s a matter of doing your duty to help others. If you can’t do that then don’t, but don’t make excuses about why.

Um no. It’s fairly well documented that the majority of spread is coming from small gatherings in the home. Not unmasked people at the playground. I know you want to blame these moms for 500,000 dead Americans, but it’s just not the case.

Exactly. Read the data. It’s the line cooks that are at high risk while they make your food. But don’t worry, you stayed home!

All they did was compare the U.S. death rate to the death rate in some other countries. It's not just that they didn't find that masks matter, their study design didn't attempt to test any theories about the causes, including masks. They basically aggregated some data, drew a line, and calculated the area under the line.

Maybe that’s because *no other country* refused to mask on the level of the US? Because no other country had almost half of the population believing this was a hoax? Hmm... yeah I wonder why we did so much worse than other countries. Maybe it’s our drinking water 🤔

No. It’s because of our obesity, and the number of elderly people in this country. India was not great about masking and even worse about distancing. They achieved herd immunity through natural infection. They did not have the death toll that was predicted because they didn’t have as many high risk individuals.

Lack of paid leave/places to isolate for low wage workers fueled the outbreaks in our country.

You really think Covid is dragging out because people won’t mask outdoors? Do you understand that masks are modestly effective indoors, and that one is 20x less likely to spread the virus outside? Moving activities outdoors is the intervention that works.

Covid is dragging on because a vaccine isn’t widely available. Covid drags on because low wage workers worked when they were infected, and sent the virus home with their coworkers. Many of them live in small, cramped spaces with other essential workers.

For some people, their thinking has not evolved from the days of “if everyone wore a mask we would be done with Covid.” That’s not how it works. Structural inequities are driving most of the spread. And blaming people for becoming infected with a virus has a very sad history. When all is said and done, we will realize the mask debate kept us from trying to implement policies that would save many lives.

Yes! Or the people driving in their cars alone, with a mask on. What in the world.

I am generally at the playground with 2-3 other moms and our kids play together. The kids are masked, and I'm often masked too because if I take mine off, the kids want to take theirs off too.

But it's hardly all or nothing. We just do our best.

Oh you probably saw me. I am fully vaccinated and refuse to wear a mask while I am sitting on a bench watching my kids play. My kids wear masks because they are unvaccinated but I won't play your silly outdoor mask games anymore - give me all the dirty looks you want

And how privileged you are to be vaccinated and get to make that choice for yourself.

You are at the playground where other young kids may be unmasked, especially 2 and below. Do you step back if these young toddlers come too close to you?

The problem is that you can't maintain a distance of 6 feet in a playground unless you stand away from it at all times. If your kids are younger and masked you might still need to step into the playground to pick them up from a fall or whatever, or from blocking a slide from another kid.

Why would she? She can't catch covid or transmit covid.

What? Please do some research on what vaccines do. And the vaccine is for the virus, not the disease. You sound very uninformed.
