What’s up with parents not wearing masks at the playground?

Anonymous
I’m fully vaccinated. The only reason I wear a mask is because other people don’t know I’m vaccinated.

Because science is real.

Where is this? I've never seen anyone without a mask at all the playgrounds I've been on in DC.

Honestly, just use this info to plan your move. You should move to a place where more people think like you. I live in a place where everyone wears masks all the time, even today. I'm happy. I know there are lots of places where people don't wear masks, and if I were one of those types, then I'd move there.

They know exactly what they are doing and it is incredibly frustrating bringing DS there and having to turn right around.

This. I think they don't want people to get close, so don't mask to keep everyone else and their kids at least six feet away.

Where do you live pp!? We mask everywhere outside. Double mask in fact. Because why not? What’s the downside. Cannot wait for this to be over tho. We’ve come so far, not sure why people think ok to just give up now.

Not double masking outside is not “giving up.”

I went to the playground today without a mask. I’m vaccinated. My kids had masks.

They are staying 6' (think fingertip to fingertip) from others? They are already vaccinated? They are at vanishingly low risk of serious illness based on their age and health history?

This. Totally pointless to wear mask once vaccinated or outdoors away from others. Being extreme and unscientific just creates backlash.

Where are you finding these playgrounds with 50 kids and 30 adults? The last time I was at a playground this crowded was at the Gorky Park, Moscow. (And it was totally worth it). I've never encountered more than 2 families at playgrounds in our neighborhood.

It’s a public place.

It’s outside.

these moms were the ones who were featured last night on cnn's "fight to open schools"

I am fully vaccinated and so is DH. I would love to stop wearing my mask, but I worry about people getting upset... so I wear it. I have a feeling that once it starts getting hot I will start caring less about what other people think and say I will leave my mask in my picket

This is more than a little paranoid. I really don't think people think through these decisions that much. And I don't think they are thinking about you, or anyone, when they make the decision. They are just doing something mildly selfish (I say mildly because I agree with PPs that outdoors it really doesn't matter that much) because human beings are selfish.

Why is everything on these boards about "mean girls"? I see that phrase so much on here that it's lost all meaning to me. Someone in the real estate forum called me a mean girl for saying that a listed house was overpriced for the location. Not everyone who disagrees with you is a "mean girl". WTH.

Just stay 6 ft apart from those parents. There's plenty of room. I feel like a PSA is needed that it's ok not to wear a mask outside unless really really tight space.
