Yup. Previously healthy. Go talk to your friends who work ICU. A lot unknown yet about the pathology of this. |
For my in school kid we loop that over a ponytail. For the younger one we put the elastic around a hat. It’s worked well in fall/winter with wool hats. Gotta figure it out for summer. Maybe a baseball hat. |

Professionals need to speak to news media. Tracy Beth Hoeg and Monica Gandhi spoke up for kids regarding the unfounded 6 feet social distancing requirement, and the CDC did backtrack. The problem with speaking up now is that the damage is done. The pandemic is nearing the end. There is a high professional cost to questioning masking, as you could be lumped in with fringe groups. So, they will just let it play out. One day, researchers will study the social development of 0-5 year olds that spent the majority of their waking hours without seeing facial expressions for an entire year. |

You know, a month or two ago I would have just said ‘wear the mask if others are there, it’s good optics and it’s low cost.
But now, that so many people are vaccinated and increasing evidence says outside exposure risk is low? I don’t care. You do you. It’s incredibly unlikey to spread covid. |
Please give sources for all your claims. Seriously asking, not snarky. |
Here is an excellent source: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/933225/S0824_SARS-CoV-2_Transmission_routes_and_environments.pdf “ In a systematic review (pre-print) that included papers published up to 3 July 2020, secondary attack rates from asymptomatic index cases ranged from 0% to 2.8% (9 studies) “ “ Although many cases show evidence for respiratory transmission at close-range, there is evidence that under certain circumstances the virus may be transmitted at a distance more than 2 m through aerosols [63]. These include prolonged stay in crowded, poorly ventilated indoor settings. Findings from contact tracing studies in 13 Japan suggest an 18.7-fold higher risk of transmission indoors compared with outdoor environments [33].” You are not likely to have asymptomatic transmission occur in your own home. Outdoor transmission is very unlikely. |
There aren't so many vaccinated people, especially in MD. And, no kids are vaccinated. |
I dont think masking is near the end though, I think there will be efforts to keep it in place until kids are vaccinated- which could be a year from now! |
+1 sadly. We’ll have to get to zero Covid like Australia/NZ, or a pediatric vaccine before people will give up masks. Both are years off. |
| i just assume they're vaccinated |

I just forgot mine yesterday, walked to the park with kids and dog. I just didnt get close to people. It was outdoors and no trouble distancing. Kids had theirs.
I'm not against wearing a mask at all, and never go in a business establishment without one! |
+1. Which is why somebody with some sort of authority needs to intervene- the negatives of young kids continuing to mask outweigh the positives. I'd argue this was always the case, but even more so once most adults are vaccinated. |
I think it will have to come down to comparing mask optional school districts to those that require masks. Texas has left masking up to individual districts. Also, UK, Sweden, Denmark, etc. don’t mask young children. Tracy Hoeg has recently recommended RCT mask vs. no mask schools. With so many adults now vaccinated, she thinks it’s safe to run the trial. I hope someone will fund this research. Sadly, those of us in blue states may be masking out children quite a while longer. |
I hope not. Funny, in the latest school study the only transmission was...masked. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7012e3.htm?s_cid=mm7012e3_w |
