The TikTok Teens are Mocking Us

These kids don’t care what you wear. You’re old to them no matter what. They don’t want to dress like 35-40 year olds because no 16 year old ever has. And it’s embarrassing so many of you care that bad about what 16 year olds think about your clothes! Wear whichever jeans you want, they’re barely noticing you and you won’t trick them into thinking you’re 16 if you do wear the jeans they do.

I don’t see any millennials whining. Where are they? Social media? Everyone knows regular social media users are mentally stunted narcissists and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

I have a beautiful house, I drive a luxury SUV, I can take amazing vacations. What do they have? Nothing.

This is the perfect DCUM catch-all response. Works for anything!

I don’t even know what I’m watching here.

Ikr?

I looked up "adulting" but I am still confused. Who is mocking who and for what in this little snippet?

First PP here, and I understand the adulting part, but it wasn’t clear who was mocking who because the teenager looks kind of like an old person. But then I noticed the string lights and trombone in the background, and correctly deduced that this is a HS student

The teenager is mocking millennial humor which revolves around stuff like being 38 and saying “adulting is hard” or “I adulted so much today.” They also mock millennials being way too invested in their Harry Potter house, making coffee and wine and Target their whole personality, randomly adding “and tacos” to stuff like it’s funny and on and on.

I’m 35 and a lot of my peers on Facebook are taking this really hard. Did we all forget being 18 and thinking anyone over 30 was SO OLD and clueless?? It’s the circle of life.

Taking this really hard? Like for real?

Oh, buddy. You just sound out of touch. Imagine saying that people who use the telephone are mentally stunted narcissists, or we should avoid the post office because no one who sends letter will be taken seriously.

Social media is ubiquitous. It's a way to communicate, to self-express, to entertain, to inform. You can decide it's not for you but you are basically writing off a big chunk of the world if you stomp your foot and decry everyone who is on social media as being a stunted narcissist.

DP. Yes. They’re big mad. “They can’t take my skinny jeans and side part and laugh cry emoji! This is the generation that ate tide pods! We invented all their trends! I’ll rock my skinny jeans to the liquor store, ha!” It’s sooooooo embarrassing, they sound legit like Boomers.

Original pp and yep, I am seeing these exact same memes. I am so embarrassed for my peers. Imagine being in your 30s and feeling the need to taunt 18 year olds about not being able to go to the liquor store. Like calm down and go check on your 401k or something.

I’m the PP. also millennial. I was texting my sister recently and there’s a big split between millennials. Ones who are like 28-35 are okay. They don’t try to act younger but they behave in age appropriate ways and are reasonably on trend. The ones who are 35-40 are the cringe millennials. Stuck in like 2008-2012. They’re still obsessed with stuff like Friends and the Office. They like infinity scarves and knee boots. Think people care to see lots of pictures of their kids. They’re the ones who are having the biggest issue with this because it’s like they actually don’t understand yeah you’re at or approaching middle age. I also think they have this weird complex because Gen Z kids are way more confident than they ever were at that age. They also didn’t really have ugly awkward stages the way other generations did because they’ve grown up with stuff like makeup tutorials and social media showing them trends. Old millennials are weirdly bitter about this.

The only thing that teenagers hate more than middle-aged people dressing unfashionably is middle-aged people dressing in the trends.

Yep. I’m 41 and I do indeed have a side part and skinny jeans. I don’t mind being teased for my old person style...it beats the alternative of trying to dress like a teenager, which seems unbearably cringey.
