Happens every year. Just go back and check the board. But they will get a great education nonetheless. |
I'm sorry, PP, that's tough. It might have come down to the essay (where special awards and extracurrics could be listed) or even a slight difference in MAP Scores. I know it doesn't seem fair when there just aren't enough seats. |

99% kids are rejected from CES and magnet middle schools every year. It has to be the case for magnet high schools as well... And yes, it's sad. However, I'm not sure they will expand seating in the next few years, because of budget issues that existed even before the pandemic, and then the additional burden of the pandemic. Also, with the trend towards more social equity, I'm worried that magnet programs are always somewhat targeted... |
| My DD was WL at Blair, invited to Poolesville, and WL 82 for Northwest. We are choosing Poolesville. |
Cabin John MS. Straight As. 99% MAP-M and MAP-R. Admitted RM, rejected Blair. |
| TOMS magnet 8th grader, DCC feeder, 99% MAPM and MAPR, active participation in most clubs, worked very hard on writing a good 250 word essay- selected Blair MSC, Kennedy IB, Poolesville ecology, rejected RMIB |
| PP, I meant TPMS and also straight As |
What is Blair MSC? |
Poolesville is great! Congrats! |
The one lottery program my student applied to (MC2) had “waitlist” and a number. So there’s a difference between the standby kids in the lottery (list) and application (pool) programs. Not sure advocating will make a difference in the pool, though. Generally for a wait pool, they basically do a lottery with those names to fill any spots open after the acceptances are in. There’s no opportunity for any sort of lobbying or to provide any additional information. You just wait, and they call you. For appeals, though, you can provide supporting evidence to demonstrate any mitigating circumstances. So if your kid has bad grades because a parent died, or was sick during the COGAT test (in normal years), or had computer issues during a MAP test, you’d have an opportunity to submit documentation of that. |
| Where is info — do not see on parent vue — we are coming from private |
There is a letter as soon as you enter Parentvue - in that letter is a link - click on the link to get you to the acceptance/wl/rejection letter |
| Thanks PP — nothing there. Maybe they did not post for private school students |
| Got into Poolesville ecology and humanities, rejected at RMIB and poolesville SMAC, but got into Watkins Mill IB... Any idea if regional IBs are comparable to RMIB... DD was hoping to get into RMIB! |
An IB program is an IB program, but the cohorts might be different. In either case, it's a self-selecting group though so if your daughter likes the virtual open house, I'd say go for it. |
