Are you in-bounds for RMIB? Just guessing, but maybe the 20-25 number is for in-bounds acceptances. It would make no sense for the whole program to have one classroom of kids per year. |
PP here, right, sorry. I meant inbounds. But b/c we are inbounds, I want to make sure I am not confusing acceptance into the magnet with generally "invited" to the IB that is available to all RM students... The criteria/lottery/invite/accept language is confusing... |
| DC is rejected by all programs he has applied for. He is in a middle school magnet and doing really well. WTH. |
I’m really sorry. We had that experience after an excellent performance at a CES. I know it’s disappointing and very frustrating. |
My out of bounds student was “Invited” to RMIB and SMCS. I think that means “Selected,” despite the language used in the letter. |
+1 a PP whose kid was invited from OOB. |
|
Thanks for the clarification that "invited" was the term used for OOB RMIB! I didn't want to get excited and then find out it wasn't the magnet.
So do we think they just got it wrong in the letter language that lottery = invite? |
PP here. The whole thing is pretty much random. It really sucks. |
Different PP. This is always true to some extent, but this year especially. I told DD when she applied that there’s a lot of randomness and being accepted (or not) is not a reflection on her. They’re going to go through this again in 4 years with college, so I think it’s good to learn how to handle the unfairness / randomness of the process. |
| Our child was “Invited” to CAP and the Leadership Training Institute at Kennedy and “Not Selected” to IB at RM. I agree the language is confusing. |
Good point. Also good to get away from the "everyone gets a gold star for turning up" culture that has risen in recent years. |
Ditto. |
US too and DD is heartbroken. Never seen her so crushed before. |
Think of it as college (application) prep.
|
I think it is harder to get in from the middle school magnets, just like it’s harder to get into the middle school magnets after CES. |
