The Folklife Festival changed because the National Park Service spent a lot of money on the grass on the Mall and didn't want the tents to ruin it.

Honestly, I've felt wary in crowds ever since Dylan Roof (which coincided with the rise in Trumpism). I've stayed the hell away from firewerks (July 4th) since

I thought I was the only one like this. Was in high school when Columbine happened and I’ve never been comfortable in crowds since.

The entire year will be a dangerous one. Be aware of unattended packages and threats on social media. If you work in a federal building, ask them to dust off their evacuation plans.

Wonder if Madonna will lead the charge?

Anyway, this year with all the fuss - the crowds will probably be down and security will be up - I'm contemplating going down for a moment of joy like it was on the day the election was called. That was sublime.

Yes! There were awesome bands. Enjoyed the Radiators out of New Orleans. Also watched the fireworks nearby the Georgetown Harbor area.

Umm. . .Obama's inauguration committee held a concert at the Lincoln Memorial, which I attended. Where were you?

totally off topic ... the folklife festival is always sooo miserably hot. they need to accept global warming and move it to the fall or spring.

Oh FFS. We have some serious problems as a country. We need to do some deep investigation into what the hell is wrong with us and how we can fix it.
