So you are okay with states and cities declaring bankruptcy sometime in mid January?

You really think states and cities don’t have the reserves to last to end of January?

But somehow families already stealing potatoes can last past Christmas?

States have yet to cut budgets or raise taxes. NY MTA is running full service despite drastic drop in ridership.

Just call him Scrooge and get it over with. Maybe one can hope the ghosts of Christmas past come back to haunt him someday. This is downright Dickens at this point.

McConnell’s staff informed House and Senate leadership staffers that the group’s attempts to marry $160 billion in state and local aid and a temporary liability shield probably won't fly with most of the GOP, the Democrat said. Those two issues have become the primary focus for a bipartisan group of lawmakers that is trying to hammer out a $908 billion compromise.

Mitch already offered to drop liability protection if Pelosi/Schumer drop non-targeted state aid. The Democrats passed.

Because they consistently underestimate how low he can go. I don’t know when they will learn.

This. They started out demanding $1.2K stimulus plus $600/UI and Mitch said - $1.2K stimulus and $300/ui. Pelosi said no. Now it’s a base of $0 stimulus and $300/UI from GOP. That’s after Mitch’s latest proposal said no UI at all.

Pelosi keeps losing ground with smaller and smaller offers. It’s not getting better. Settle.

Okay and? They can make those cuts for services through January. The newly unemployed will even qualify for UI to feed their families - imagine that!

IOW, Pelosi keeps conceding because she is showing that Mitch wants NO DEAL. Pelosi could ask for $100 per unemployed person and Mitch would reject it.

Seems writing is on the wall that Democrats believe no stimulus until after GA run-off will help them win 1 or both GA seats.

She could just take what he’s offered even though it’s crap. He probably WANTS maximum pain. Just say that and accept the “deal”, and focus on ripping him apart afterwards.

I mean what other reason would there be? It's that GA run-off, clearly.

Both of them are insane if they think not having a deal is better for either of them, mich less the American people. But if either of them had an edge in creating pain to push the election, it’s him—red state Georgians buy his blame game.

They said the same thing about the Nov. 7th election and taking the Senate. Guess where we are now?

Whether or not Jan. 5th election with the GA Runoffs goes in the Dems favor we will STILL be locked in brinkmanship. That is 25 days from now. Also guess what? Congress is out of session until 5 days before Inauguration Day for the new presidency. So really its another 1.5 months before help arrives in the form of vote, let alone releasing the funds from Treasury.

P.S. - I personally think the Dems will lose either both seats or only gain 1. Which means McConnell will still be Senate Majority Leader.

i think you have your parties backwards. Nancy already accepted the problem solvers bill which has the support of a majority of senators. Mitch did not.
