This would not be an appropriate way to spend tax payer money. But, when has "appropriate" been a metric for Democrats?

Seventy-three percent of the funds that would be provided to Americans under President Biden’s proposal for $1,400 stimulus payments would be directed to household savings, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the Penn-Wharton Budget Model (PWBM).

The report estimates that the other 27 percent of the relief would go to increased consumption.

John Ricco, a senior analyst at PWBM, said that the group analyzed how people in various income groups would be likely to use the additional money, and the propensity for households to spend each additional dollar they receive.


“At this point in the pandemic, we find that there is a lot of additional money flowing into households that don’t necessarily have the ability to spend that on additional goods and services,” Ricco said in an interview with The Hill.

Ricco said that PWBM didn’t do a similar analysis for the first round of direct payments that the IRS largely issued last spring. However, he thinks that such an analysis would likely have shown that a lower share of those funds went to household savings because more people were out of work at that time.

“Now, household balance sheets are in a much better place than they were at that time,” he said.

When the WV Governor came out for the bill, that was the signal that Manchin was green lighted to support it. He can now claim that he tried to be bi-partisan, but that getting money out to the people and states and cities (like Wheeling, Charleston and Morgantown) was too important to hold up.

I will only support proposals that will get us through and end the pain of this pandemic," Manchin said in a statement.

He will get what he wants and vote yes. Probably lower the income threshold and some earmarks for WV. Remember, he voted for impeachment of Trump the first time even though WV is deep red.

I think his words have been twisted. He said he wanted a big bill. He also said he did not want all that money going to bail out pensions in those big Dem states. Pretty sure he also said he did not want the $15 minimum wage.

I don't understand all of the legalities of reconciliation, but don't those things automatically go with it--i.e. those are in the House bill and therefore in the Senate bill?

Don't think they covered reconciliation in my Civics class. Younger generation--did they cover it in Schoolhouse Rock?

I don't think people who have benefited from the stock market realize just how bad it is for those in the service and travel/leisure sectors, that have basically fully shut down.
