Not if it permanently provide liability shield for irresponsible employers.

They can fix it after he loses the majority over it.

And when Dems lead the senate I cannot wait for Senator Warren to really go after these sick corporations. You don’t want civil liability, okay fine. How about criminal?

It'll be a disaster if unemployment and protections disappear in Jan. I think, however, they will pass something before recess, because neither party wants to be responsible for chaos right before a big GA runoff.

Looks, it's not hard.

No bills with pork.

Give states money

Give employers liability protections

Extend unemployment out to April

Done. No one gets everything they want.

The Republicans have been saying for months that the money to states is pork.

Pretty sure they represent states.

They do, and yet they've called necessary emergency federal funds to prop up police and fire departments, schools, libraries, EVERYTHING whose funds are depleted due to the lack of state and local taxes “pension fund bailouts for blue states” for months. They don’t want to pass anything.

It’s not funny hilarious, it’s more funny sickening but I thought I’d share.

Again, louder for the people in the back: MCCONNELL DOESN’T WANT TO PASS ANYTHING.

Drop local+state aid and fight for it under Biden. Pass UI + stimulus + government funding now.

McConnell’s staff informed House and Senate leadership staffers that the group’s attempts to marry $160 billion in state and local aid and a temporary liability shield probably won't fly with most of the GOP, the Democrat said. Those two issues have become the primary focus for a bipartisan group of lawmakers that is trying to hammer out a $908 billion compromise.

Sorry I meant local+state aid AND liability.

I agree. It’s a travesty but not one worse than doing nothing.

Once it's in there, it will never come out.

So you are okay with states and cities declaring bankruptcy sometime in mid January?

Less talk - more action Pelosi. Stripped down House bill now. Pass a sub-Trillion dollar bill and force McConnell to say no to it.

Sucks, but Mitch can and will do whatever he wants. You want any aid, you have to agree with him.

WhT I don’t understand is how P and S are so bad at explaining that to everyday people.

It isn't that they're bad at explaining it to everyday people, it's that the message gets drowned out by the Republican propaganda machine bleating about how Democrats want to shut cities down and kill small businesses that employ patriotic hardworking real Americans.

THIS.
The mainstream media carries water for the GOP and the for the GOP alone. Their messaging is always related, their messaging becomes the narrative. The Democrats are always relegated to some nonsensical position, even as Rep Porter points out that it is one anarchist holding up this whole entire thing. One man with Chinese and Russian money lining his pockets, encouraging him to disrupt and ruin America.

I mean...the GOP is right on this one. I’ve watched them extend full stand-alone unemployment bills and stimulus checks for months.

What did Pelosi do? Turn them down.

$1.8 trillion deal pre-election with every wishlist item. What did Pelosi do? Turn them down.

Everytime an offer is made Pelosi’s grand stance is ‘Its not enough’.

So where are we now? A bill worth a quarter of the initial request, no unemployment or no stimulus, barely any local/state aid. Seriously the Dems had a great hand and just - killed it.

Yup. Pelosi has done a terrible job with this negotiation. If you've ever taken a negotiating course, you learn that if you become too inflexible the concessions dry up over time. Pelosi is now gonna have to take a deal that's half a big as the $1.8T that was offered before. That just shows Pelosi was playing stupid politics, and now it has backfired. The $1.8T deal have huge money to states, unployment and $1200 checks. Pelosi stupidly rejected it. Now it is even lower. Pelosi is a terrible politician.

I love how you rewrite history to blame Pelosi. McConnell shut down that deal.

You really think states and cities don’t have the reserves to last to end of January?

But somehow families already stealing potatoes can last past Christmas?

Mitch already offered to drop liability protection if Pelosi/Schumer drop non-targeted state aid. The Democrats passed.

DP. Yes, I’m okay with that if it means we pass legislation to bail them out next year so we can bail hungry families out today. It’s what it is. This is who is in control today. Dems have zero leverage right now.

Because they consistently underestimate how low he can go. I don’t know when they will learn.
