Irrational things that annoy me about Gilmore Girls

Same! Emily is DEFINITELY flawed, too, and pulls some real nonsense BS that is essentially unforgivable. But more often than not she's right, and the girls are being brats.

I love this show and I also love to pick it apart. There's a great GG subreddit for others of this inclination.

Yet...she wanted Rory to have all the things she had growing up. Her great quest on the show is to ensure Rory goes to a posh prep school and public school is not enough for her precious daughter. She wants Rory to travel to Europe and shge wants Rory to have a prestigious journalism job on TV.

The hypocrisy was astounding.

Yeah - that was what made her interesting. She eschewed what she'd grown up with except she'd also internalized the values except she also pushed her daughter away when she decided she LIKED that life. She was a hot mess of contradictions!

Yes, for someone who was apparently so down to earth and not elitist Lorelai sure wanted the best for her daughter and a small town life was not enough. Yet when Rory actively enjoyed that life Lorelai cuts her out.

Huh, I really thought this thread was going to be about how the upstairs of Lorelei's house didn't match the first floor - like why was Rory's bedroom off the kitchen? Was there only one room on the second floor? That bugs me every time....

Same! I love the show flaws and all. And for the posters claiming people don’t talk that fast in real life, me and my sister speak even faster.

1). The whole damn town celebrates Rory. They were so mad that they (the townspeople!) couldn’t attend her graduation ceremony from Yale. They then banded together to throw her a huge party to celebrate. Woe to any other kid in Stars Hollow who wasn’t Rory!!

2). Honestly, I think she was stupid to turn down Logan. His character had come a long way and I think they could’ve grown up together to become a great power couple. Their storyline in the revival was horrible and stupid.

3) Lane was scapegoated (see #1)

4) Rory was not a nice person.

5) Lorelei was not a nice person.

6). The grandparents lived in Hartford but they were always seemingly 20 minutes from New Haven.

100%. So much damn discussion of how amazing Rory is.

OMG yes, and the renovation post-Luke made it even more confusing. Where is the addition?

The ultra fast talking and zero pauses in conversation. It’s highly irritating to listen to

Yes, did the house only have 2 bedrooms? Why was Rory's room by the kitchen?

LOL Yes! We live in a house with only 1 bedroom upstairs but it's a cape cod. The exterior of their house would suggest multiple upstairs rooms!

I generally love GG and don't get nit-picky about it. But there was an episode early on where Rory is totally *shocked* when Paris tells her good grades aren't enough to get into Harvard, she needs to do more extracurricular activities. How would she not know that if she actually was so driven to attend Harvard? But I guess is foreshadows a bit her complete incompetence as a journalist in the sequel.

The while Lorelei back story made no sense. Are we suppose to believe she had a baby as a 15 year old and managed to support herself and her daughter without any help from her super rich parents who lived down the road? And the inn keeper who had them live in the back without just being like “umm go back to your family” and somehow she managed to buy that nice house? Okkkk

How did Lorelei handle child care when Rory was a baby and she was working? It’s possible a teen w/o a hs degree could make enough money to cover childcare AND save up to buy a house.

She worked at the Inn and the owner let her have the baby around. She started out cleaning rooms etc.

They do in some parts of New England when talking to each other.

My two favorite characters are Emily and Paris. They grew on me and were strong women.

I loved Emily. Paris I could take or leave. Her personality was just too abrasive and aggressive for me personally.
