Irrational things that annoy me about Gilmore Girls

Also, Paris would have gotten into Harvard on her name alone.

I think the fast-talking thing is highly exaggerated, they didn't seem that rapid to me.
What did annoy e were all the bits, that were meant to be funny, but more often than not weren't.

As for the weight, I think people forget Rory was 16-22 in the original run and Lorelei 32 -38, it's really not that unusual for people to maintain their weight as teens, early 20s, and into 40s,.

1. If their GPA's were tied, I could see the headmaster choosing Rory.

2. Didn't Paris go off on one of her crazy, intense rants during the college interview? I assumed that's why she didn't get in.

Yeah, I really disliked this show.

And it showed disordered eating. The only way you could stay thin eating all of that is to develop an eating disorder.

Do you mean Rory being thin? I ate like a horse as a teen and weighed 92 pounds when I graduated HS. I weigh 136 now—basically gained a pound or two per year. Some teens are just skinny.

+1
Some people have fast metabolisms and are just skinny. Period. A lot of women hate acknowledging that fact.

Does it help if you knew that show-runner Amy Sherman-Palladino said she was going for a 1940s golden-age of Hollywood, Hepburn and Tracy kind of vibe? It's not meant to be realism. It's meant to be stylish and snappy.

DP. I loved most things about GG but HATED the fast-talking shtick. It just started to make my skin crawl after awhile. Same with MMM. ASP writes scripts as if they’re performing onstage. They’re not.

That there are no actual poor people in stars hollow. Where are the opioid addicts? NOT truly representative of rural
America. The closest thing you get to rural reality is when Jess takes a job at Walmart.

There is NO BUS that would be a thirty minute ride from stars hollow to chilton, that’s just flat out fantasy.

Lauren was quick and could learn to say it correctly by the third take. Alexis, not so much. Made for stressful working conditions. Perhaps bad habits learned from Lauren.

I had a dim view of Alexis and her acting ability after that but she's gone on to do seriously great work on "The Handmaid's Tale" so perhaps she was just immature. She married "Pete" from "Mad Men" a real weirdo. But she may have turned out okay after spending her teenage years in the spotlight.

Alexis Bledel was terrible in Mad Men.

Also, she didn't marry Pete. She boned him.

Yes, she did. https://www.eonline.com/news/964898/why-alexis-bledel-and-vincent-kartheiser-remain-so-private

ASP admitted that the reunion show was basically the script that she'd intended as the original ending with few updates. That's why the characters felt frozen in time. The only character who evolved was Emily. That happened because Edward Hermann the dear actor who played her husband passed away and ASP had to invent something new for her. Having her scandalize children with graphic descriptions of harpooning whales was the best part of the reunion. All the rest of it was regrettable. Melissa McCarthy was a big star by then and didn't come back for much of an appearance. I don't blame her.

Maybe that's why I liked it. I'm into theater.

I like GG and will probably rewatch everything with my daughter soon.

I like how the characters are flawed. I like that Stars Hollow feels like a town where you can walk everywhere, everyone knows everyone and you don't have to worry about violent crime. It just feels like an escape.

I LOVE the complicated relationship between Emily and Lorelei. To me that is the heart of the show. I love how the characters were super contradictory. Like Lorelei wanted to be this free spirit but actually, she was super organized and focused in how she ran her business, and had strict rules around no dating while Rory grew up, etc. And yes she hated her upbringing but wanted Rory to go to the best schools. I love that because people are so that way.

I really liked how Rory grew up a hot mess with little direction and might end up just going back to Chilton teaching at the end of the revival series. I went to a very wealthy ritzy private school growing up and guess what - all the all stars from my high school are doing very normal things. Some are big law partners who work a ton and I'm sure make a lot of money but certainly aren't famous or known for being at the top of their field. Or they are SAHMs, or teachers, or mid management employees somewhere. No one is a star journalist, best selling author, or famous anything. It's just reality.

Ooh, that's an interesting take to me, because I just watched her other show Bunheads for the first time and didn't like Sutton Foster because I thought she talks too slowly, which I attributed to her being more of a stage performer.

When I watched in HS I thought Lorelei was SO cool. Now I find her selfish and annoying, but I love Emily.

I think this show is just not for all y'all. This thread has reminded me of everything I loved about gilmore girls.

I'm in my 40s now and watched GG a lot in my late 20s and 30s. I related a little too strongly to Lorelai and compared my country club mom to Emily. I think this was one reason why I was kind of awful to my mom during this period.
